We are seeking an experienced clinician to join our MBChB academic team to support the delivery of the student-selected component (SSC) programmes, particularly in second and third years of the MBChB programme. The post will involve commissioning and coordinating the delivery of clinical audits and service evaluations in clinical units across NHS Tayside. SSCs run in four-week blocks: one in May (undertaken by second and third year), and one beginning mid-January (third year only). This post is 0.1 WTE funded by NHS ACT. The SSC programmes in the University of Dundee School of Medicine are long established, allowing students to gain experience in areas of interest to them. Clinical staff play a crucial role in providing what is for most students their first real exposure to the clinical arena. Teaching and learning in SSCs is enjoyed by both staff and students, judging by the feedback in both directions every year. Students can gain experience of various kinds in clinical units. Clinical audit and/or service evaluations allow students to become immersed in the hosting clinical department whilst carrying out work that is useful to the clinicians. Currently time and capacity limits the ability of NHS clinical departments to create and support these projects. This post will coordinate and support clinical audits in NHS departments as part of the healthcare quality improvement aspect of the undergraduate curriculum. Year 2 and 3 SSCs will form the bulk of student-led clinical audits, although these are sometimes also done by students in later years. The post holder will ideally be a medic with healthcare improvement experience. The University of Dundee enjoys an international reputation for excellence that attracts top-class students and academics from across the world - with over 140 countries represented in the University community. You will be based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals where the School of Medicine provides outstanding opportunities in medical education and training supported by world class research facilities. Your priorities will include: * Coordinate from the initial discussion with hosting departments to develop audit projects, seeking to ensure that the proposed project is feasible and meets the needs of staff and students. * Work with supervising staff/student to facilitate the process of the project ensuring support and appropriate governance including formal governance requirements. * Ensure the logistics of the project are supported throughout as needed. * Would work with NHS/UoD colleagues to ensure suitable space and resources for the projects to be undertaken. * Work with the appropriate team members in the University of Dundee MBChB programme specifically including the SSC Convenor. The University of Dundee is a signatory of the Researcher Development Concordat and is committed to enhancing the research environment and culture. Engagement and support of activities which assist the researcher development agenda at the University is therefore essential.
