Job description

King’s College Hospital is a large teaching hospital at the forefront of academic and nursing excellence. The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the busiest in London and sees approximately 135,000 patients per year including nearly 30,000 children and young people. As a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for South East London and Kent, the ED receives patients from two ambulance services and two different air ambulance providers. It is one of few centres in London to have its’ own designated helipad, which is open 24 hours to receive trauma patients. It is also a regional centre for Hyper Acute Stroke, an Institute of Liver studies and primary angioplasty. Our Emergency Department now has a 10 bedded resuscitation area with a nursing ratio of 2:1. We provide care to patients from a diverse inner-city population and believe that the diversity of the local population that is reflected in our staff and recruitment strategy.
We are currently recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic nurses for the band 5 Staff Nurse role. We are looking for motivated, innovative nurses with clinical knowledge & skills, excellent communication skills who are able to demonstrate suitability and experience for the position. You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about emergency care.   • To be a safe and effective practitioner able to provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to relatives.
  • To work with support, within a multi-disciplinary team to provide continuing care to a specified group of patients from admission to discharge.
  • To supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as appropriate.
  • To maintain own personal development with support.

  • To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times
  • To assess, plan and evaluate individualised programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carer’s and the multi- disciplinary team
  • To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families
  • To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence based
practice guidelines
  • To ensure that patients and next of kin are informed as appropriate and as consented to by the patient themselves
  • To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance
with NMC and legal requirements
  • To maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department
  • To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model
for nurses and other staff
  • To act in a professional manner at all times.
