Your new company
You will work for a leading public sector organisation based in Derry. This is a contracted role for 6 months, with possible extension depending on business needs. You will work 4 days at home and 1 day in the office.
Your new role
As Staff Officer Accountant you will provide support to the Deputy Principal Accountant and your duties will include: assisting the DP Accountant and Head of the Programme's Strategic Delivery Office in all aspects of the Programme's Accounts Receivables and Payables; review and approval of raised purchase orders; monitor programme procurement contracts; process and audit invoices; monitor the payments and payment trackers completed by staff members; prepare monthly accruals; liaise with the team for the Monthly Cash Management Forecast and ensure that the correct financial figures are collated each month; maintain and assist with the Monthly Accruals and Variance returns; extract, interpret and present financial information to the DP Accountant as and when is required; monitoring the Programme Budget, finance / budget control & highlighting any issues to the DP Accountant; review, approval and completion of various finance returns and lead and manage a team of two.
What you\'ll need to succeed

  • Have successfully passed the final professional examinations and be a full, current member of one of the professional bodies.
  • Have practical skills in one or more areas of: financial planning and budgeting; financial accounting/auditing; management accounting and cost analysis; budgeting/accounting of EU funds; and/or development/implementation of financial systems.
  • Good knowledge and experience in Financial Management and Accounting procedures
  • Good knowledge in IT accounting systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable engagement with business area representatives throughout the data collection and implementation phases of the programme
  • Ability to analyse information to assist with the development of recommendations for improvement to achieve a new strategic overview of the programme
  • Ability to contribute to strategic decision-making within the overall programme of works
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good knowledge of techniques for financial planning, monitoring and controlling programmes
  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
  • Ability to provide high quality, reliable, accurate and timely financial information
  • Ability to assist with the financial planning processes

You will work for a leading public sector organisation Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, hybrid working 4 days at home and 1 day in the office. The business may also consider fully remote working, depending on the location of the candidate. This is a contracted role for 6 months, with possible extension depending on business needs.
