Together, our scientists, technologists, engineers, technicians and business support team explore the unknown and turn what they find into work that changes the world around us. Whether it's sending probes into space or finding new ways to treat cancer, everyone here plays a vital role in making a positive difference to society.

Come and discover how much you can achieve when you're surrounded by world-leading experts, encouraged to constantly learn and empowered to explore your curiosity.

As part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) develops and exploits frontier research in particle physics, astronomy, nuclear physics and space science through activities at UK universities and its own national laboratories, working internationally through a range of long-term collaborative research projects.

Our Strategy, Planning and Communications (SPC) Directorate brings together the essential functions that are needed to help shape, communicate and monitor progress against STFC's strategic plans. Our role is to enable the organisation to determine its strategic direction and translate this into a coherent set of plans, communicating these across the organisation.

We offer flexible working arrangements, including the provision for remote working. The post is available as full time, part-time or job-share.

About the role

As part of our Partnerships and Insight team, you will work across STFC, UKRI and our external partners to support the building of opportunities for STFC leadership and participation in ambitious collaborative opportunities. You will gather and disseminate useful intelligence, identify and nurture effective partnerships, and maintain excellent working relationships with national and international stakeholders.

This is a diverse role, offering the opportunity to deliver a number of key activities by engaging with various stakeholders within STFC, across the UK and internationally.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • providing coordination for thematic areas such as net zero and healthcare relevant to STFC's work, synthesising complex contextual information to inform and influence STFC's strategic decision making
  • creating and maintaining strong and effective relationships ensuring that relevant UKRI/STFC staff understand the capabilities and priorities of STFCs national laboratories
  • proactive and regular engagement with key stakeholders (including relevant UK Government departments, professional bodies, charities, and professional networks including academia and industry)
  • exploring the development of new opportunities for STFC and UKRI in thematic areas of focus, working collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen the strategic cases for intervention and explore potential funding routes

We are looking for someone with:

  • the ability to make effective autonomous decisions utilising analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills where appropriate and empower others to do the same
  • excellent team working skills, with the ability to establish purposeful and effective working relationships and networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • strong planning and organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise and manage complex and conflicting activities, and plan and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines
  • an understanding of the UK higher education system and/or experience in higher education administration, research funding/administration, or a similar environment

What we offer

We are offering a fixed term position with a whole host of benefits including:

  • 30 days holiday (in addition to 10.5 bank holidays and privilege days)
  • flexible working hours
  • an excellent defined average salary pension scheme
  • employee shopping/travel discounts
  • excellent learning and development opportunities
  • visa Sponsorship for candidates applying outside of the UK

Plus many more benefits and wellbeing initiatives that enable our employees to have a great work life balance!
