Stock Control Section Manager – Spalding

Salary: Up to £36,250 depending on experience
Shift: 5 from 7 37.5 hours per week- 8AM-4.30PM with flexibility of hours worked to meet the operational needs of the business.

Bakkavor Meals, Spalding has three factories and a distribution centre based on the same site in Spalding, Lincolnshire, employing over 1600 people. These production units produce soups, sauces, dips as part of our meals range as well as salad accompaniments such as coleslaw and pasta salads, sandwich wraps and food to go salads.


This role will be based in within our 24/7 Distribution Centre which services receipt, storage and despatch of chilled foods manufactured at on-site and off-site production facilities for onward distribution to group production sites and major retailers.

You will work at the heart of distribution centre team ensuring that overall operations run smoothly and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will come from a chilled warehouse, food manufacturing or FMCG background, have clear experience of engagement, be a good communicator at all levels, be competent in computer and WMS usage with demonstrable people management skills.

Duties will include, but not limited to:
  • Ensure customer stock satisfaction is achieved and customer queries are investigated and monitored, providing feedback to relevant parties as required.
  • Profile that ensures all colleagues are responsible for tasks assigned to and take appropriate action where necessary to ensure service is maintained and drive continuous improvement.
  • Recruitment and training of all colleagues within the Stock Control team and support for all functions within the department and beyond as required.
  • Manage, maintain, and deliver training compliance of colleagues in conjunction with the Learning and Development team.
  • Monitor, review, assess and improve storage, staging and pick face layouts to enhance stock zoning to offer greater operational effectiveness.
  • Proactively review volume fluctuation, launches, and delists to timely action reorganisation plans for product locating to promote an ergonomic, cost-effective warehouse layout.
  • Maintain, develop, and improve channels of communication with the team and extending to all parties that interface to the department both internally and externally.
  • Interface with hauliers and primary contacts that collect and deliver to and from site.
  • Ensure vehicle outload times are met and issues / delays are communicated as required to maintain satisfactory customer service levels.
  • Visit internal / external customers and other relevant parties create a two-way monitoring of quality of service to/from our business.
  • Using data compilation and reports, analysis results to drive KPi improvements to enhance the operational effectiveness of the team.
  • Ensure standards are in place to meet and exceed compliance levels towards Safety, Quality and Legislation.
  • Manage action plans to deliver and enhance colleague engagement.

To be considered for the role, previous experience of working in warehouse or logistics environment or similar will be desirable and, you will ideally possess the following skill base:

  • Proficient computer user with various applications including Microsoft office
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience with electronic Warehouse Management / Operating systems
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • People management skills
  • Ability to inspire engagement at all levels
