Job Purpose

We have a great opportunity for a Strategic Sourcing Manager to join us. You will be accountable for leading the sourcing delivery of business critical and medium to high spend opportunities, implementing market manager integrated strategies, delivering multi-million pound savings and benefits, and connecting the supplier collaboration capability with the relevant stakeholders.   

You will also lead the sourcing delivery of business critical and medium to high spend categories, focused on savings delivery and defined benefits. Aligned to the Commercial Balanced Business Scorecard, deliver a multi-million pound savings and benefits profile.

Job Accountabilities

  • Develop and undertake the Sourcing process (business requirement through to contract execution) for complex, medium to high spend goods or services, influencing annual spend of up to 150M, managing all risk, legislative, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Working collaboratively with the Strategic Market Managers, and relevant stakeholders (at ‘Executive and Heads of' level) to execute integrated market strategies through the development and delivery of a Sourcing pipeline.
  • Create a qualified savings and benefits pipeline, in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, approved by Finance and applicable to budgets.
  • Lead negotiator of significant (multi-million pound) savings and benefits, working in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish a collaborative way of working with all relevant stakeholders that supports the successful transition of Sourcing led execution to Supplier Collaboration. 
  • Provide key input into the annual Integrated Market Planning reviews, in collaboration with the Market and Supplier Collaboration teams, aligned with all relevant stakeholders' business objectives and priorities. 
  • Challenge demand in the pursuit of enhanced savings delivery, embracing the Market Management demand aggregation of common products and services, as well as delivering cost avoidance benefit.
  • Recognised for their sourcing expertise, providing specialist sourcing advice. Introduce innovation, expertise and ideas to deliver market led competitive advantage.
  • Conduct regular competitor and market watch assessments in delivery of the optimised total cost of ownership for sourcing contracts.
  • Lead a team of Sourcing Managers and/or Sourcing Specialists and Associates, contribute to the development of the Sourcing team to maximise value for the organisation by supporting and providing guidance to peers and input into training requirements and fostering team work.
  • This list is not exhaustive and includes any other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities required from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Preferably degree educated, with a relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. CIPS,RICS, MBA, MSC).
  • Significant sourcing experience, with a demonstrable track record of savings delivery.
  • Proven senior level stakeholder management skillset.
  • People and team management experience.
  • Knowledge of key sourcing management processes, tools and methodologies.
  • Proven level of negotiation and dispute resolution skill set.
  • Politically savvy, with the ability to use exemplary direct and indirect influencing strategies. 
  • Demonstrable level of problem-solving experience and in large, complex organisations.
  • Experience with cross-functional collaborative working methods.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Utilities market sector.
  • Project management experience would be useful.
