Job Description

About the role

National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects in order to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

The UJV Operations team are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operational running of a portfolio of interconnectors including North Sea Link, IFA1, IFA2 and Viking Link. As a Strategic Spares Engineer, you'll play a critical role identifying, procuring, and maintaining Strategic Spares for Assets across the Interconnectors business.

By working with our UK and European partners, you'll help deliver a cleaner and better-connected electricity grid for Europe. That’s a job anyone can be proud of.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to travelling to our office (Warwick) and Interconnector sites (UK and Europe) as required. We are open to flexible working arrangements.

Key accountabilities

  • Liaise with Suppliers and OEMs to identify equipment / spares that are or becoming obsolete and ensuring Strategic Spares are identified and procured to ensure resilience.
  • Manage storage of all Strategic Spares to ensure Strategic Spares are available for delivery to sites when required.
  • Liaise with Project Directors / Managers / Engineers to identify Strategic Spares requirements for new equipment being installed and ensure they are sourced as part of scheme / project.
  • Drive continuous improvement through working with other utilities and industry bodies to ensure best practice is shared across the Interconnector Asset portfolio.
About you
  • Knowledge and experience of High Voltage Assets used in the transmission and distribution of HV Electricity, preferably with HVDC although this is not essential.
  • Willingness to learn/understand the importance of spares and logistics management.
  • Good knowledge of strategy policy and procedures development and implementation as well as good stakeholder management, influence and engagement focus.
  • Experience of delivering complex projects and a knowledge of basic project management principles and techniques.
  • Educated to a minimum of ONC/HNC in an appropriate Engineering discipline or NVQ in an Electrical Disciple or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £43,000 - £54,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement car, a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
