Strategy and Business Change Director

This is a site-based role at Ware, UK.

This is a truly exciting opportunity to be part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at the Ware site, GSK. At the Global Supply Chain (GSC) Ware site, we have a heritage in making innovative medicines for diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), HIV and cancer. An exciting place to work, Ware is the new product introduction site (NPI) for respiratory and oral solid dose medicines and has supported the launch of over 15 new innovative medicines since 2017.

We are co-located with our R&D colleagues and recently opened a new, state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility at Ware, where scientists, technicians and engineers from R&D and GSC will work collaboratively together using the latest technologies and rapid knowledge transfer to deliver GSK’s most innovative, medicines faster and more efficiently.

On site we produce over 60 million respiratory inhalers each year with growing demand in future years.

This role is a great opportunity to be instrumental in developing and delivering the Ware Site’s future factory ambitions. You will be working at the cutting edge of digital transformation within GSK, in a high-profile role with senior leadership involvement.

The role is responsible to lead the development and execution of the site strategy along with associated Business Change and execution processes including the Project Management Office (PMO), providing independent and data-based guidance on prioritization, financial expenditure and resource requirements.

The role holder will advise, consult, monitor and report on projects, programmes and portfolios of work in conjunction with business leads who have responsibility for delivery. It is anticipated that circa 100 projects will fall under the PMO remit to track and provide a level of reporting and management.

This is a critical role, with a high degree of trust and visibility among senior leaders across the organization. Working with a diverse supply chain you will be a key contributor to the site and wider GSC.

In this role you will:

  • Provide clear leadership, development and direction to the team by building capabilities and develop key talent for succession planning.
  • Lead the process for development of the GSC Ware site strategy (long range) ensuring effective integration of all relevant strategic processes e.g. FMP, SWP, Quality strategy etc. and effective connection with all relevant parties, both onsite and centrally, in the strategy development process
  • Utilise GSK Production System (GPS) Standards and Digital tools to help lead and sponsor change and improvement programmes to deliver the strategy plan.
  • Lead the process for prioritization, coordination, tracking, reporting, risk management and change control of projects necessary to deliver the targets defined in the site strategy deployment map.
  • Develop and embed project management tools, training interventions and guidance to enable successful execution of PMO activity. Provide leadership and guidance to staff in implementing these tools
  • Identification, development and deployment of continuous improvements to all aspects of PMO ways of working. Increase site capability in project risk detection and mitigation to drive on time, in budget project delivery
  • Ensure sufficient Change Management, Digital and Data Management capabilities exists within the team to enable the necessary change activities across the site
  • Represent PMO on the SLT and on central governance forums as required

Why you?

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Degree Qualified preferably in Science/Engineering/Business discipline
  • Considerable experience in a similar leadership role preferably within Pharmaceuticals, can consider regulated industries as well
  • Thorough understanding of, and experience in, Supply Chain strategy setting processes
  • Has an understanding of the complexities of transformational projects and change management projects
  • Good understanding and interest in Digital and Automation technologies

Preferred qualifications and skills:

  • MBA/Masters (preferably in Supply Chain)
  • Strong track record of delivery in a project/ PMO environment with evidence of expertise in project controls.
  • Possess formal qualifications in Project and/or Programme Management (pref. PRINCE2, APMP, MSP,PMP)
  • Strong ability to influence and clearly communicate across a wide variety of stakeholders and personal resilience
  • Proactive, independent, and highly performance focused
  • Ability to bring objective viewpoints and potential solutions to challenges across different functions and Business areas
