We are recruiting for a Structural Technician apprentice to join our friendly and innovative Bath Structures team, who are involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects.

The apprenticeship is 36 months and you will gain an Apprenticeship Standard Level 3 BTEC, Level 3 National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment and Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Construction Site Supervision.

Starting salary on offer is £23,500 plus additional benefits. Benefit highlights include 25 days holiday and early finish on the last Friday or the month, cycle to work and other competitive benefits.


What will I be doing?

Working on a variety of incredible projects around the world, as an apprentice technician your role will evolve to be able to develop engineering calculations and sketches into 3D building information models using tools such as Autodesk Revit. You will also setup, manage and coordinate your models/drawings with other engineering disciplines and will work closely with the design and client teams. As part of Buro Happold's Structures team you will develop your digital knowledge and skills, specifically:

  • virtualisation and simulation of building assets
  • digital measurement of building assets
  • communication of complex engineering principles to stakeholders digitally using tools such as Revit
  • adherence to industry standards and regulations for digital information.

You will also be expected to:

  • Ensure service and project work are carried out to an excellent standard - within agreed deadlines and within budget.
  • Prepare technical specifications and schedules, design development reports and innovative design solutions.
  • Plan and manage input to Computer Aided Design programmes for production of design work.
  • Assist in the management of projects complying with Buro Happold project management procedures.
  • Represent the company as part of a team attending design team meetings or meetings with client and other design team professionals.

What do I bring to this role?

  • Good IT skills and the ability to learn and use software, you will have the opportunity to learn programmes such as 3D BIM, structural analysis packages and visual programming (i.e. Python, Dynamo and Grasshopper)
  • Great communications skills and a team-oriented outlook (ability to work in a team environment)
  • Confident, enthusiastic, proactive and 'can do' attitude
  • A positive and inquisitive approach and the confidence to ask and respond to challenging questions
  • Willingness to develop personally and acquire new skills.
