Job description

Subject Lead of Enlgish:
The successful leader for this post will be expected to teach English and inspire staff and students in a range of classes, including key stage 3, 4 and 5, at a school that prides itself on preparing children for their lifelong journey ahead. Time will be dedicated to develop a range of teaching and learning strategies, with a collaboration of planning and shared units of work and resources. The area this school serves has its own challenges, with many children from disadvantaged families and a high level of deprivation. Your students are coming to school for a safe space and have an abundance of pastoral care available to them and their families. Here, they are empowered and motivated, they feel like their voices are heard. They are even involved in the interview process of new staff, so be prepared for their questions! This role is for a September start, however can start sooner for the right candidate, or for a candidate that doesn't have a notice period.
Academy leaders have made vast improvements to the curriculum in the past few years, and you will be clear on what you need to teach and will be supported in leading your colleagues. In your lessons students embark on a journey covering content and developing skills through engaging and practical activities. They will experience a fluid movement throughout KS3, KS4 and KS5.
This is an exciting permanent opportunity in a school committed to recruiting the best quality teachers to drive their vision forward. You will be really making a difference to children that need it most, some having been through adverse trauma. Many teachers say that’s what they want to do when they go into teaching, yet not many take on roles to make that a reality. Here is your chance.
This secondary school is based in Birmingham and is recruiting a permanent Subject Lead for English (QTS). You will be teaching English to KS3, KS4 and KS5 pupils, with support from a team of colleagues you will lead with the support of the School.
Salary: M1 – M6 depending on experience plus TLR
Plus an additional £3000 Recruitment and Retention payment over 3 years for the right candidate
To be successful in your application, you should;
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Able to lead, motivate and inspire staff and students
  • Have a drive for continuing professional development
  • Passionate about raising standards for students in English

Due to Covid-19 a flexible interview process is in place for this role. A video meeting with a Smile Education representative will be arranged for applicants as a first stage interview.
