Job Title:      Subject Leader English (incl. Reading and Phonics)

Location:      Brookthorpe Hall School, Gloucester

Salary:          Up to £43,000 per annum

Hours:          40 hours per week; Monday to Friday 

Contract:      Permanent, Term Time only

Anout the role

To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress and to be accountable for student progress and development within the Subject Area.

To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others and ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and adaptive curriculum for students studying in the Subject Area, in accordance with the aims of the School and the curriculum policies determined by the Governing Body and Headteacher of the School. 

To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the subject/curriculum area and to effectively manage and deploy teaching and support staff, financial and physical resources within the Subject Area to support the designated curriculum provision.

Responsible for

  • Teaching staff and other relevant personnel within the Subject Area
  • Liaising with Headteacher, Assistant Headteachers, other Subject/Pastoral 
  • Support, and relevant staff with cross-School responsibilities, relevant non-teaching support staff, Local Authority staff and parents.

Brookthorpe Hall School is a specialist provision providing full-time specialised co-education for young people aged 7 to 16 with a range of complex needs, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. This may include social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties.
