The Faculty of Life Sciences and Education is seeking to appoint a member of staff who will provide individual, professional guidance to students - allowing them to make an effective transition to higher education and to subsequently support them to succeed on their chosen degree pathway. Fundamentally, the post holder will work closely with the academic course teams in helping to create a culture of engagement, through developing a positive course identity which in turns leads to a strong sense of belonging for students. In addition, the individual will monitor student engagement, retention, and performance, supporting students who are experiencing difficult personal circumstances by working closely with colleagues from specialist support services.
The post holder will need to be proactive, adaptable, and a resilient problem-solver, always seeking to enhance the student experience. They will have a positive approach to their work, be a strong communicator, well organised, and committed, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team. They will be expected to develop a strong awareness of the barriers facing individual students and will be able to work effectively with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
The post holder will normally be based at one of the university sites but may be asked to work flexibly to provide support across any one of our campus locations (Glyntaff, Treforest, Newport, USW Sports Park). Duties and working patterns may vary according to service needs. The university operates a hybrid model of working; the successful candidate will therefore work on campus with the option of working from home when appropriate (through negotiation with their line manager).
This is a full-time, fixed term for 12 months, post that will support the following subject areas:
- Nursing and Allied Health.
- Chiropractic, Psychology, Policing and Criminology.
- Education and Therapeutic Studies.
- Sport
