  • £29,777 - £32,076 per annum (Band 5)
  • 37 hours per week
  • Fixed Term contract or Secondment Opportunity for 18 months

The Suffolk Councils have secured funding from Cadent, the largest gas distribution network operator and are delivering a 2-year programme to support residents who are struggling to keep warm across our County. The programme is being hosted by East Suffolk Council, but we are driven by the commitment and enthusiasm from all the Suffolk District and Borough Councils.

The programme will link in with the Safe Suffolk Renters programme (safesuffolkrenters.org) but be available to support all residents regardless of their tenure status.

Having established a centre of warmth in Lowestoft, we are now expanding to Babergh and Mid Suffolk area and looking to recruit another Support officer.

The key purpose of this role is to work directly with Babergh and Mid Suffolk residents in community settings and in their homes to understand the issues impacting their health, well-being and financial security. You will be the key contact to assist them with applications for support and funding, assist with budgeting and carry out benefit entitlement checks. You will liaise closely with the other Support Officers, other teams and partner organisations to ensure expert support is brought in at the right time to make a difference. You will work closely with Community Teams and help build community support to make a sustainable difference.

Your role will also support the Safe Suffolk Renters Programme as they target poor housing conditions. You will support the project manager in organising events and activities to encourage healthy eating and cooking on a budget activities and work with the Warm Homes Healthy People team to support applications for grant funding. The role will be employed by East Suffolk Council but will focus on the delivery of services in Mid—Suffolk areas over the 18 months.

We are looking for a self-starter with a background in supporting individuals with housing and financial issues. Someone with experience of budgetary support who is empathetic and able to identify multiple support needs and signpost to provide a holistic support network for sustainable support for vulnerable member so the community. This is a role for someone who wants to make a difference, enjoys being part of a team and enjoys a challenge.
