Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability Officer to join a leading, global manufacturer within the construction sector.

The main role will be to represent the company on sustainability matters and be the key point of contact internally and externally, as well as coordinating and maintaining corporate sustainability reporting.

Working closely with Quality Assurance and Corporate Sustainability, you will predominantly be responsible for BREEAM, LEED, GEV, EPD certification requests from customers, and ensure ethical practices within the supply chain (supply chain management).

You will also provide education and training to employees, creating awareness about sustainable practices and encouraging behaviour change and ensure regulatory compliance within the scope of sustainability.

You will represent the company on Social Responsibility matters (SEDEX, SA8000, Code of Ethics etc).

Also work closely with the marketing team to highlight success stories and demonstrate the company's sustainability achievements.

They are looking for someone who has demonstrable sustainability experience with a proven track record of developing and successfully executing sustainability strategies and initiatives.

Knowledge of sustainability principles, frameworks, and reporting standards is essential and a familiarity with current and emerging sustainability-related issues, trends and legislation both in the UK and other markets is required.

Based on-site full-time, you will also travel nationally to suppliers premises when required, so a full UK driving licence is essential (electric car provided as part of the package).

Essential requirements for the Sustainability Officer role include:-

A recognised Environmental or Sustainability degree or equivalent experience & qualifications.

• Knowledge of sustainability relevant certification systems (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).

• Knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements and Management Systems.

• Knowledge of social responsibility requirements.

• A full UK driving license is required as successful candidate will be required to carry out 2nd party audits at suppliers, as well as a valid passport for any travel in the EU eg for training.

It would be useful if you have worked in a manufacturing environment, ideally within the construction sector, but this is not essential.

Knowledge of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment methodology would be useful.

Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required for supplier visits.

This is a brand new role with lots of scope for involvement across the business.
