Sustainability Project and Programme Manager

Job Summary:

Responsible for delivering the Equinix UK sustainability program with accountability for identifying and implementing approved Sustainability Projects to drive down Data Centre energy consumption and reduce PUE. Ensuring that sustainability is advocated wider than technical solutions. Accountable for managing the interface between UK Operations, Data Centre management and the Energy Efficiency Centre of Excellence. 

Responsibilities 

Project/Program Management and delivery

  • In conjunction with Engineering dept, Data Centre managers and the Energy Efficiency Centre of Excellence, hold responsibility  for developing long-term (5 years +) sustainability programs per Data Centre.
  • In conjunction with Engineering dept, define and scope individual projects to achieve UK Ops sustainability goals.
  • In collaboration with the Capex Projects Team, hold accountability for the execution of annual programs of projects to achieve the annual sustainability and energy reduction targets across the Data Centre’s - all within expected time, cost and quality requirements. 
  • In collaboration with the Capex Projects Team and Data Centre operations teams, hold accountability for the scheduling and phasing of projects to ensure delivery is coordinated with DATA CENTRE annual maintenance programs and Equinix change management requirements
  • Responsible for identifying and exploiting energy reduction opportunities associated with the planned replacement of End of Life critical assets.
  • Accountable for the scoping,  compilation and submission of business cases for Sustainability Projects to achieve savings and cost payback targets.
  • Accountable and responsible for production of management information - including a detailed monthly report on the progress of programs, projects, Data Centre energy consumption and achievement of UK Ops sustainability targets

Technical & System Support  

  • Translating sustainability goals into high level technical solutions. 
  • Evaluating technical solutions against desired energy efficiency and PUE reduction targets 
  • Produce monthly PUE report for each Data Centre and report data into department software applications.
  • Translating sustainability goals and technical solutions into achievable projects, based on individual business cases 
  • Planning to ensure that none of the Sustainability Projects will have a negative effect on Data Centre availability (Up-time). 

Stakeholder Management 

  • Experienced working in mission-critical organizations with dynamic, fast-paced environments. 
  • Understands how to assess customer needs through direct communication, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 
  • Creates an atmosphere of interdependence, collaboration, and reciprocal communication among departments or divisions within the company. 
  • Is adept at forming productive working relationships with leaders of other departments to achieve mutual goals

Risk Management 

  • Uses judgement and foresight to circumnavigate risk; employs mitigation techniques to manage and control risk 
  • Compiles and maintains program risk register in respect of achieving sustainability goals
  • Reports on risk and issue management.
  • Drives and supports the team on the resolution of escalated issues

Resource Management (people, finances etc.) 

  • In conjunction with the Commercial Manager, develop and maintain program budgets, track and control spend on projects to within business case budget  
  • Is an escalation point for the team for solving resource/budgetary issues 
  • Contributes and/or responsible for resource planning (people, finances etc.) activities 

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Proven years of experience preferred within data centres, infrastructure facilities, building management systems
  • Working knowledge and experience of Data Centre MEP infrastructure design, installation techniques and operating principles to provide detailed input to internal/external construction teams.  
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively within a highly technical mission-critical environment.
  • Detailed understanding of project/program management principles and disciplines.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in complying with the requirements of UK construction Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, Codes of Practice and safe working practices.
  • Skilled at building effective, productive and purposeful relationships with consultants, contractors and service providers.

Qualifications

· Extensive experience preferred relating to Sustainability targets, projects and energy reduction techniques within mission-critical environments

· Diploma to a Bachelor's Degree preferred
