Job description

Energy Saving Trust is an independent organisation working to address the climate emergency.

Energy Saving Trust is a leading and trusted organisation, dedicated to promoting energy efficiency, low carbon transport and sustainable energy use. We aim to address the climate emergency and deliver the wider benefits of clean energy as we transition to net zero.

At Energy Saving Trust we don’t just offer jobs - we offer careers. For our people, being part of the effort to address the climate emergency makes working for us truly meaningful and rewarding.

As well as investing in our mission, we invest in our people and culture. We’re committed to creating an engaging, supportive, and inclusive workplace for all and providing opportunities for development, training, and growth. We also provide a range of benefits such as flexible working, an employee assistance programme, and a wellbeing allowance. Please see our careers page for more information on why Energy Saving Trust is a great place to work.

The team

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a personable and motivated Procurement and Contracts Officer to join the Contracts and Procurement team (which sits within the Business Development team). The role will have a focus on supporting the growth of the business and implementing the net zero ambitions of the organisation.

The role will be uniquely placed within the company to support the various pillars of the business and the successful candidate will have a broad visibility of all the programmes and projects that Energy Saving Trust works to deliver across the UK.

Working in partnership with various teams at the Energy Saving Trust will allow you to use your experience and skills, whilst improving your knowledge and having the space and opportunity to grow within a friendly, supportive team. While a skilled and experienced candidate is desirable, Energy Saving Trust puts a particular focus on the growth and development of its staff and so there are opportunities here to start your new sustainability journey.

The role

Net zero is becoming an increasingly important consideration for businesses across the UK and the world. The Energy Saving Trust aims to be the UK’s leading organisation in achieving net zero; we are a respected and trusted voice on energy efficiency and clean energy solutions, we continue to work towards a smart, decarbonised, decentralised energy system.

With an estimated 70% of Energy Saving Trust emissions coming from our supply chain, to meet our net zero ambitions we need to evolve the way we promote and enforce net zero standards with all the organisations that we work with, and procurement is a powerful tool in achieving that goal.

What you’ll do

  • The successful candidate will support the Commercial Contracts and Procurement Manager and the net zero Lead in promoting our net zero standards through our supply chain, establishing a new central list of approved sustainable suppliers.
  • Auditing standards within our supply chain on a regular basis and on-going data collection on the emissions of our suppliers; all with a view to implementing emissions reduction actions and driving down our supply chain emissions.
  • Support the Commercial Contracts and Procurement manager in the review and implementation of new policies and procedures to govern increasing contracting activity geared at achieving efficiencies.
  • Support the Commercial Contracts and Procurement Manager with the development and maintenance of a suitable suite of contract and procurement templates.
  • Support commercial client liaison and contract negotiations with key suppliers and clients.
  • Under direction and oversight of the Commercial Contracts and Procurement Manager, review and draft standard commercial sales and purchasing contracts in line with current contract law and best industry practice.

What you’ll bring

  • Sound working knowledge of commercial contracts, contract management, the Public Contracts Regulations and procurement processes.
  • Strong communication, organisational, team working and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to manage time and priorities efficiently, a proactive approach to driving improvement and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of Sustainable Procurement with the ability to identify environmental issues within a supply chain (although this is desirable, it’s not essential as full training on Sustainable Procurement will be provided).
  • Relevant experience in stakeholder or supplier relationship management with the ability to measure and review supplier performance.
  • This is a permanent position. Our standard weekly hours are 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. This will need to be a full-time role.

We are open to flexible working locations (within the United Kingdom) and as standard we offer all contracts on blended (home and office-based) working.
