About us

We’re looking for a System Technician to cover North and East areas The Coastal Maintenance team supports the RNLI through carrying out planned & reactive maintenance, including fault diagnosis & repair on various pieces of equipment. This could be anything from a Lifeguard All-Terrain Vehicle to a brand-new state of the art Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Your Role
As a System Technician, you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:
- Effect repair and planned maintenance to RNLI facilities, plant or equipment at station, support centre, haul out facility or other location as required
- Ensure risk assessments and job cards are created and used for each task undertaken to include SHE: observations, noncompliance and near misses. Contribute to establishing and maintaining a safe working culture
- Carry out modifications to boats and equipment. Sign off relevant paperwork, submitting any recommendations as required
About You
You’ll be someone who is self-motivated and willing to go that extra mile, working either as a part of a team or under your own initiative to the highest of standards with a first fix approach to return RNLI SAR assets back on service as soon as possible. You will need to take on new ideas and undertake training where needed. You should have a desire to stay current in the use of existing technology but also be willing and involved in the roll out of new equipment and technology.
To be considered as the System Technician you will need:
- Time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship with a sound background and experience in marine Engineering and associated equipment
- NVQ level 3 minimum or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Wide knowledge of Marine mechanical and electrical systems; and/or Marine or plant experience; and/or Experience of construction/ modification of mechanical equipment; and/or Experience of repair and maintenance of electrical equipment
- The successful candidate will be within reasonable travelling distance to Boldon Support Centre
- The willingness/ability to spend nights away from home
- Be part of an on call roster
- Sound Knowledge in Microsoft packages
There will be extensive travel throughout the North & East, UK and Ireland.
