JOB DESCRIPTION
In addition to the professional duties of a subject teacher as detailed in the Teachers’ (Terms & Conditions of Service) Regulations (NI) 1987, the person appointed will be expected to:
- be responsible to the appropriate HOD
- work as a member of a team under the leadership of the Head of Department
- contribute to the efficient running of the Departments
- undertake a pastoral role as a Form Tutor
- share in the supervision duties undertaken by all members of staff
- make a contribution to the extra-curricular activities of the school
- undertake such tasks as may be reasonably assigned to him/her from time to time by the Principal
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
Essential Short-listing Criteria
The following criteria would be essential for a candidate to have in order to fully satisfy the requirements of the post. By 1 September 2024 candidates should have:
1. Recognised teacher status to teach in an 11-19 school (completion of a PGCE in 2024 will be acceptable)
2. An honours degree in a related science (2:2 minimum)
3. The ability to teach Biology or Chemistry to A level
4. The ability to teach Biology and/or Chemistry at GCSE level
5. The willingness to teach A level Life and Health Science
6. The ability to teach Science to Key Stage 3
7. The ability to teach another subject to Key Stage 3 level
8. Be competent in the use of ICT and its application to the teaching of Science
9. Be able to demonstrate good teamwork, good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable Criteria
1. An Honours Degree at 2:1 or above
2. Recent experience of teaching Biology and/or Chemistry at GCSE level
3. Recent experience of teaching Biology or Chemistry at A level
4. Recent experience of teaching Life and Health Sciences at A level
5. Recent experience of teaching Science at Key Stage 3
6. Recent experience of teaching another subject at Key Stage 3
7. A willingness and ability to make a contribution to the overall extra-curricular life of the school
Both the application form and interview will assess criteria described above.
Please note applicants will be expected to teach a 15-minute lesson that shall constitute part of the interview process. Further details of the lesson will be provided following the short-listing procedure.

On taking up the post, applicants must be registered teachers with GTCNI.
