Job Overview
We want our pupils to love going to lessons and to actively want to learn Science and Biology.
We are looking for a teacher who will bring enthusiasm and joy to their classroom, enthusing all pupils to achieve their potential and nurturing those who aspire to excel in the sciences. Beyond the classroom, we are looking for an individual who is “whole-school”, inspiring Housians to be true Change Makers.
Biology is taught as a discrete subject to Y6 and above, with Science taught by science specialists in Y5. Y3 & Y4 are taught science by primary-trained Class Teachers with science specialist support. We are looking for a teacher to teach Y5 Science and Y6-8 Biology, but with the ability to teach some Y3/4 science and Key Stage 2 maths.
Most full-time teachers will be expected to be an academic and pastoral tutor for approximately 12 pupils in Year 5, 6, 7 or 8 and run co-curricular activities.
The post is suitable for experienced and recently qualified teachers. Additional roles and responsibilities, including as the Head of the Science Department, will be considered for the right candidate who may be seeking opportunities for progression and career development. We will support candidates who wish to study for their PGCE whilst they are working at Winchester House.

Houseparent - There is the potential of taking on an additional role as Houseparent which attracts and annual allowance. There is no accommodation with this role but a room in the boarding house will be allocated when on duty.
The role of the Houseparent tends to be 18 hours per week (plus 2 x overnight duties per week (10.30pm - 7.30am) with an expectation that during term time you would be available for administration and communication to parents relating to the Boarding house.
