Job Title: Teacher of Social Science and Business Studies

FTE: Full-time and part-time opportunities available

Contract type: Permanent

Year groups: Business Studies KS4 and Social Science KS5

Exam groups: GCSE and A Level/ Cambridge Tech

Location: Downend School, BS16 6XA

Start date: April 2024 preferred, but September 2024 also considered

Downend School is looking for a full time, permanent teacher to join the Social Science and Business Departments. The ideal candidate must be able to teach Business Studies at KS4 and a range of Social Science subjects at KS5 , which could include Sociology, Psychology, Criminology and Health and Social Care. We would welcome and encourage those who are ECTs or early in their career to contact us, as well as those with more experience. This is an excellent opportunity to join a committed team.

About the role

You will be joining two thriving departments that aim to provide students with a varied and stimulating curriculum that encourages students to be inquisitive and independent thinkers. Our aim is not only to help students achieve great outcomes but to spark their interest and engagement so that they have the qualifications and desire to pursue further study at A Level and degree level. For those students who pursue other passions in life we aim to equip them with the powerful knowledge to understand and question references to Social Science and Business that occur in their daily lives.

About you

The ability to teach a range of Social Science subjects to A Level is essential, as is the ability to teach Business to GCSE. You will have excellent communication skills and be proficient using presentation software to help deliver lessons. You will ensure equality of opportunity, irrespective of starting points, to enable all learners to make good progress. You will also be personable and approachable and be able to quickly build effective relationships with students, and colleagues in the School and across the Trust. Importantly, you will be a positive role model for all students.
