University College Birmingham works in partnership with the University of Warwick - Ranked eighth in the 2023 Guardian League Tables and 10th in the UK in the QS World University rankings 2023.

The Role:

Are you looking for a unique and exciting educational adventure?

Do you feel passionate about inspiring young people in Biology?

Does the opportunity of shaping a transformational science learning experience appeal to your pioneering spirit and skill set?

University College Birmingham is opening a new Sixth Form Centre in September 2024 and we are looking for knowledgeable and ambitious scientists who have taught some A-level Biology to join our friendly, innovative teaching team at the start of our journey.

Working within our brand-new laboratories, you will work with our experienced Curriculum lead for STEM to help plan curriculum intent and implementation for A-Level Biology. A more experienced teacher can apply for the post of Subject lead and take on more responsibility for planning. Please indicate your preference on your application form.

Teaching within a university environment and our £5.5 million Sixth Form Centre facilities will provide you with a truly unique opportunity to rethink science education; to create a beautiful, knowledge-rich curriculum which transforms academic learning through exemplary pedagogy, specialist lecturers, graduate tutorials, and the use of world leading vocational facilities, such as simulation health suites and industry standard food chemistry labs.

We are unashamedly ambitious and strive for the best academic outcomes for our students, alongside explicitly teaching character education, empowering students to live purposeful, flourishing lives.

Preparing for university within a university means our students (and teachers) will benefit from the extensive award-winning support services at UCB, including a library with online access to over 60 million digital resources containing published research papers as well as course textbooks, a dedicated academic support service available for all students, a Health and wellbeing service with a Nurse, mental health support and counsellors, and a dedicated careers team to help secure student work experience and volunteering roles.

We recognise that you will be our greatest asset and we will fully support you to excel in your craft; our professional development programme includes instructional coaching and there is the opportunity to undertake a Master's or other professional qualification.

We can support ECTs through the next steps of their professional development or help more experienced teachers develop their pedagogy and leadership skills as Subject lead.

Benefits:

  • Generous allocation of annual leave (Pro-rated for part-time)
    • 38 days' paid leave per year
    • 12 Bank Holidays & Concessionary Days
  • Excellent Teachers' Pension Scheme
    • Employer Contributions - 23.6%
  • Subsidised private healthcare provided by Aviva including a Digital GP Service.
  • Employee Assistance Programme inclusive of counselling services, financial wellbeing support and bereavement support
  • Annual health MOTs with our Registered Nurse
  • Excellent staff development opportunities including professional qualification sponsorship
  • A variety of salary sacrifice schemes including car, technology and cycle.
  • Heavily-subsidised on-site car parking in central Birmingham
  • Hybrid working opportunities
  • Free on-site gym membership
