Academic Appointments are recruiting for Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Staff to start ASAP. The role would be to work in a school which provides specialist education for young people aged 11-19 with Autism Spectrum Conditions and Communication and Interaction difficulties.
The education provider follows the National curriculum subjects with adaptations for the specific needs of the individuals. Along with English, Maths, Science, Humanities and the Arts there is a large focus on preparing pupils for adulthood learning, knowledge of careers and independence skills.
A successful candidate would have:
- experience supporting students with challenging behaviour, autism spectrum and complex needs
- experience in an educational setting within the last couple of years
- experience working within education or care in the UK in the last 12 months
- a passion for making a difference
- a confident, caring, and assertive personality
What to expect:
- Working in these settings requires patience, confidence, and a caring attitude as many of these students have difficult social, emotional, and mental health issues which need to be managed.
- You will be supporting pupils learning transferrable skills for their futures including communication, literacy, numeracy, creativity, physical well being and independence. There may be some aspects of supporting them prepare for adulthood, access the wider community and develop skills for independent living.

- Moving & handling training (desirable)

Rate of pay is dependent on current grade, experience and payroll method.
