Team Manager Maintenance Projects
Location: Home-based
(Occasional travel to Hampshire, Dorset, and Oxfordshire areas)
Salary: £40.4k - £50.6k per annum (Dependent on skills & qualifications)

The overall purpose of the Team Manager is to direct, engage and support a team of technical direct labour, contract labour and staff employees to ensure the engineering work they undertake is delivered in a safe and efficient manner, in compliance with company’s Safety Management Framework, health, safety and environment legislation. (e.g. PSSR, PSR, Electricity at Work & COMAH, SCO)
What will you be doing day to day?
- Management of direct labour, contract labour and staff employees on a day to day basis including all line management activities
- Set operational targets for all employees, utilising and embedding a robust performance management system and ethos. Routinely engage with them on their targets and coach them to enable delivery. A key element to this will include managing under performance as required.
- Role model for exemplary standards of personal and process safety
- Manage resources both day to day and looking forward 3 months in advance to ensure required resources levels are in place. Work with other team members planning, reallocating and reprioritising as required
- Liaise with external stakeholders, for example Roads Authorities, other Utilities, landowners and members of the public to exchange information, maintain positive working relationships and enhance SGN’s reputation
- Manage customer complaints to a successful conclusion balancing SGN’s reputation and commercial considerations
- Provide on-the-job support where there are unforeseen issues for example, challenging technical problems, plant protection & customer issues
What you’ll need
- Technical knowledge and competence in the relevant process e.g. Pressure Control, Pipelines.
- Track record in operations, along with having a positive attitude towards the company values and core behaviours.
- Previous experience of managing a team, preferably in a technical safety critical working environment
- Evidence of performance management and coaching to improve performance and development
- Knowledge of gas legislation (PSSR, PSR etc.), procedures and related health and safety policies
- Excellent customer service skills and experience of dealing with customer complaints
- Ability to communicate and influence people at all levels, both internally and externally
- Commercial awareness with the ability to understand and interpret operational Management Information and Key Performance Indicators and to articulate this to their team
- Adaptable and able to “think on your feet” in order to respond tactically to changing operational requirements, for example in response to emergency situations
- Knowledge of managing engineering projects (project role only)
- Preferably educated to HNC level or equivalent
- SCO 1,2,4,5; EL6 Competent Person (E&I only) and Authorising Engineer and IOSH Managing Safely are requirements for the role. Other technical qualifications may be required dependant on role. (If not in place incumbent must work towards qualification within a reasonable timeframe)
