A bit about the job:
Responsible for driving the development and implementation of new and innovative technologies, processes or solutions within the allocated area(s) of responsibility, whilst ensuring compliance with policies, regulations and standards.
Skills and experience we're looking for:
- This role will form part of a team of Senior/Lead Software Engineers responsible for the direction of Software Engineering processes and practices within the Data & Analytics Platform ( DAP ) DevOps team.
- The DAP DevOps team are responsible for the development and maintenance of code for the provisioning of Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code) which hosts a variety of critical Finance & Data applications. DAP DevO p s are also responsible for ensuring that all infrastructure builds meet Aviva's strategic goals of immutability and regular rebuild.
- The Quality Assurance element of the role will ensure that defined standards and best practices are adhered to and outcomes auditable.
- Individuals in the role will also be responsible for continuously improving/adapting process/practices to leverage technological advances and increase automation and repeatability.
A bit about the Programme:
- Aviva is offering a paid six-month returner programme starting in May 2024, with the expectation of a permanent role at the end.
- Our DevOps Engineer role will be based in our Bristol office.
- Aviva flexes hours and working patterns to suit its customers, business, and you.

- Y ou may need to be willing to relocate if you don't currently live within commuting distance of the Bristol office . That way you'll get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right internal support networks to help you to succeed.
- Your journey on the programme starts with easing you in on your first day - getting your IT Kit and meeting your Leader and Buddy . This is followed by a Programme Induction on Days 2 & 3 where you'll meet the Programme Leads and the other returners joining. During this time you'll find out more about Aviva and the programme and join your first of four Career Returners Coaching Workshops
- You'll then join your team where you'll collaborate with lots of forward-thinking people - working alongside, sharing ideas with, and learning from the best in the business.
- You'll get to work (and play) with all the latest tech and be involved in some fascinating initiatives to make life better for our customers or colleagues. Nothing beats the buzz of seeing a project you've worked on save a colleague valuable time or put a smile on a customer's face.
- Throughout the Programme, you'll have a great internal and external support to help you to transition successfully back into the workplace, including a Leader, Mentor and Buddy and specialised returner coaching.
- You'll also enjoy the support of your peers and the Programme Leads on the returner programme and from previous cohorts.

- Starting salary between £45,000 to £55,000 depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications .
