Our client is a specialist in the procurement and marketing of fresh top fruit, based in Colchester and Sittingbourne (Kent) who are passionate about producing long term lasting benefits for everyone they work with. They believe in ensuring a seamless supply of products for customers and consumers alike and are looking for a like-minded individual to join their team as a Technical Manager.

The role is to represent our client during interaction with suppliers and customers; proactively develop and nurture supplier relationships; accountability for fruit Supply Chains and due diligence (supplier and customer systems).

Duties (include but are not limited to):

• Ensure company due diligence databases are fit for purpose, up to date and that data is shared with customers and colleagues as requested
• Work with suppliers, technical / product management colleagues and commercial teams to receive and deliver quality, safe, legal and innovative products throughout the Supply Chain
• Recognised company expert for top fruit Supply Chains; developing and sharing product knowledge
• Responsible for upkeep of customer specifications, other customer-related software platforms and administrative tasks to maintain compliance
• Responsible for technical content of weekly product information sheets
• Responsible for due diligence approval process for onboarding of new customers, suppliers, packers, growers
• Guide service provider teams on requirements of customers to ensure food safety, legality, authenticity and quality
• Undertake relevant training / research to enhance technical knowledge and ensure knowledge of customer requirements for responsible sourcing - food safety, auditing, ethical and sustainability
• Strong product knowledge with visits to sites and raw material sources as necessary
• Respond to day-to-day customer information requests on quality / products, processes, artwork, Supply Chains, investigations (in conjunction with technical colleagues)
• Support second party and third-party audits and visits at sites
• Assist with keeping customer systems and documents up to date in (in conjunction with technical colleagues)
• Assist with ensuring business compliance with industry packaging / waste data requirements (in conjunction with technical colleagues)
• Assist customer-facing members of business with projects and trial work
• Work with colleagues to identify and adopt new ways of working to improve efficiency, with a focus on the company technical / product management teams

Person Specification:

• Strong product knowledge within fresh produce Supply Chains, ideally within top fruit
• Ability to understand, interpret and act upon customer expectations
• Ability to prioritise, organise and manage workload to achieve set targets
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail, remaining calm when working to tight deadlines
• Able to achieve consistently high levels of performance through a collaborative approach with colleagues
• Always looking at ways to innovate in a changing environment
• Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office software, retailer specific and industry platforms such as SEDEX, Food Experts, TELUS,
• The role may involve national / international travel, and therefore a valid passport and driving licence with reliable transport and business car insurance is preferred. The role requires a flexible approach to working hours from time-to-time.
