Job Title: Technical Officer - Environemtnal Protection
Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme
Contract: Part-time, 2 days per week
We are seeking a diligent and proactive individual to join our team as a Technical Assistant. In this role, you will provide vital technical support within our Regulatory Services department, ensuring the effective execution of inspections, investigations, and follow-up actions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of premises and investigate complaints, taking appropriate action as necessary.
- Execute assigned duties within the sectional division of the service, adhering to Council policies and requirements.
- Prepare reports and financial/statistical information as required, contributing to annual reports and presentations to Council or Committees.
- Stay informed of legal and technical developments relevant to the role, maintaining up-to-date knowledge within your area of responsibility.
- Assist in the training of technical staff and trainees, sharing expertise and supporting their development.
- Undertake duties outside of office hours and weekends as required, including participation in call-out/standby services operated by the Council.
Occasional Responsibilities:
- Prepare materials for talks, lectures, or presentations, participating in these activities as needed.
- Provide short-term cover for other Environmental Health duties in urgent situations.
- Work at alternative locations or sections as directed by the Head of Environmental Health Services.
General Duties:
- Adhere to the Council's policies and guidance on safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, and data protection.
- Take responsibility for personal and professional development, participating in the Council's Performance Appraisal Scheme.
- Maintain awareness of risks and contribute to the formal risk management process.
- Ensure data quality and comply with data protection policies and procedures.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably allocated, in line with the grading and responsibilities of the post.
Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours when necessary.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations is desirable.
