I am currently recruiting for a Technical Support Officer on behalf of my client, a leading public sector organisation based in Barnsley (S70).
The post holder will provide technical and business support primarily to support the Health and Safety Advisors and the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Manager but also, as needed, to support the Emergency Resilience service.
Duties include:
- Support with arranging health and safety training courses such as room bookings, dealing with booking queries, arranging printing, ordering course books and, post training courses, marking test papers and assignments (to a template) and recharging the cost to the service/school.
- Recording accidents and incidents onto correct databases. Completing online forms to report some accidents / incidents to the Health and Safety Executive. Undertaking analysis and providing data on numbers and types of incidents
- Supporting managers, including those based in schools, to source risk assessments using the council’s external supplier when these include chemicals or other substances
- Deal with requests for counselling and refer onto external supplier, keeping records and recharging costs to the employee’s manager
- Acting as a point of contact for queries relating to the service or use of the portal eg setting up new users, analysing data and raise orders, deal with invoices and recharges.
- Attend meetings, take notes / minutes including action points, have them approved and then distribute these. Follow up on any action points so these are progressed in a timely manner
- Assist with preparing materials for and arrange, administrate and co-ordinate training and exercises and wellbeing events, liaising as appropriate with external providers.
- Co-ordinating individuals onto the right training courses on the online portal (IOSH).
- Raising purchase orders.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience of providing business support in a busy environment.
- Customer service experience.
- Experience in Occupational Health and Safety- desirable.
- Experience of working with sensitive and highly confidential information including medical records.
- Experience of working to and meeting strict deadlines.
- Experience of arranging and co ordinating meetings.
- Good IT skills.
This is a full time post, 37 hours per week Monday-Friday, with a pay rate of £12.82 per hour (PAYE). The person appointed will work from the Westgate Plaza building (S70 2DR) or Barnsley Town Hall. Hybrid working may be possible with three days in the office with two days from home, after initial training has been completed. Some flexibility in working hours can be provided.
