Your Role: We are looking for a Technology and Science Reporter to write for our growing international team.

Applications are welcome from specialist journalists as well as experienced news reporters who want to specialise. 

Day to day you will: 

  • Cover everything from the launch of an iPhone to the ongoing search for extraterrestrial life, whilst finding agenda-leading exclusives.

  • Write brilliant headlines in the famous Sun style, and producing sparkling copy at speed.

  • Research and report on breaking news in the technology industry globally.

  • Be comfortable on camera to present videos on breaking news, informative and entertaining explainers, or to talk about a new gadget.

  • Conduct interviews with key industry figures and experts, and attending events to obtain original and exclusive lines.

  • Write clear, concise, and informative news articles that meet our editorial standards.

  • Work closely with the editorial team to ensure that all content is accurate and up-to-date.

  • Ability to explain technical jargon and scientific concepts in plain English.

  • Identify emerging trends and topics in the technology industry.

  • Pitch new story ideas.

  • Build and maintaining a network of contacts in the industry.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology news and trends.

  • Use social media and other digital platforms to promote our content and engage with our audience.

What we are looking for from you:

  • Expert knowledge of social media and a good understanding of SEO.  

  • Proven experience of Technology and Science editing a passion for bringing tech and Science to a mass audience.

  • Being a self-starter is key – and you will need to thrive under the pressure of a busy newsroom.

  • Understanding of The Sun brand, both print and digital.

  • A passion for bringing tech and Science to a mass audience.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law and ethical considerations.

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.

  • Proactive and displays a willingness to take on any task.

  • Always takes initiative in order to achieve desired results.

  • Self-starter, organised and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours when required.
