Where you’ll be working

As a Distribution and Transmission Network Operator, SP Energy Networks plays a vital role in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of electricity to homes and businesses across Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire. As one of only six Distribution Operators and four Transmission Operators in the UK, our actions are crucial in the decarbonisation of the network. As we embrace the transition to a more flexible energy network capable of adapting to changes in demand, generation and consumer behaviour, the upgrading of our network becomes paramount. Our digitalisation strategy serves as a catalyst for this

transformation, as it enhances services, improves efficiency and fosters innovation. In the realm of Telecoms, our focus lies in delivering, monitoring and analysing the network infrastructure to ensure operational integrity at all times. Equipped with advanced tools and technologies, our dedicated team design, deliver and maintain the Strategic Telecoms Network. We collaborate closely with other teams within our organisation, such as Infrastructure, Real Time Systems (RTS) and Cyber as well as our end customers. This collaborative approach enables us to provide and maintain a robust operational network. Our dedicated teams contribute significantly to the stability and resilience of the energy system. What you’ll be doing

As a Telecoms Graduate at SP Energy Networks, your role will be crucial in the implementation and continued maintenance of the Strategic Telecoms Network to ensure it performs to the required Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) standards.

You will gain a broad experience across all the relevant Telecoms functions whilst working with experienced colleagues within our Design, Delivery and Operations Teams and will also collaborate closely with other areas when required. In the Design area you will work closely with colleagues to gain experience and assist in the formation of complex Telecom Design Solutions. Within the Project Delivery area, you will apply project management principles to ensure successful project completion within defined constraints. And as part of Operations area, you will be part of a team that maintains the Operational Telecoms Network gaining experience in a fast-paced environment.

Throughout the programme, you will gain a technical understanding of Network Management Systems, Networking, the use of different Technologies including IP, MPLS IP, MPLS TP and SDH. You will also be able to apply your fault finding and troubleshooting techniques to different types of fault scenarios and use your Microsoft skills to maintain all associated network diagrams and records.

You’ll benefit from a hybrid working approach, with your time split between home, the office, and sites, depending on the projects you’re supporting, mainly at our offices in Glasgow, Kirkintilloch and Hamilton.

Any experience in SQL, Microsoft Power BI and building dashboards utilising data from multiple systems would be advantageous.
