Main purpose of the job:
Supporting 3 young people aged 8 -18 years old who have experienced early trauma that has impacted on their emotional and mental well being.

We provide comprehensive induction and extensive ongoing training , L4 in Health and Social Care, career progression.
Duties:
· To take part in an induction process. Ensuring that you are aware of the organisational and legal policies and procedures. Ensure that you work alongside the policies and procedures and have an input into the review and development of these policies
· To be aware of and have an understanding of the therapeutic community model on which the home’s practice is based and the theory that underpins the model.
· To be alert to the signs of distress and abuse and to ensure that the young people are monitored and protected.
· To have a good understanding and awareness of current Child Safeguarding procedures and guidelines.
· To ensure you have all relevant information on the young person’s background and present needs by reading all relevant documents & signing records.
· To be aware of relevant information that requires daily attention; young people’s logs, incident files, consequences and communications books, diary etc. To ensure that you record all information accurately and legibly, have it counter signed by a qualified member of staff and communicate it appropriately.
· To attend handovers giving and receiving all information appropriately as well as contributing to discussions and debriefings.
· Follow agreed consequences to actions with young people that will benefit the young person and create opportunities for changes in behaviour and renewed confidence in line with the Shyne’s practice model
· To contribute to the normal development of the young people through the provision of a healthy life style. To be aware of the young people’s leisure and recreational needs and preferences within organisational policies and guidelines.
· To communicate all concerns to the staff in charge of the shift with regards to the young people’s physical or emotional needs and be alert to signs of distress or abuse, and to ensure that young people are monitored and protected.
· To listen to and talk to young people, and to observe their behaviour, and record significant features.
· Where it has been agreed with your supervisor to carry out specific tasks with the young people in conjunction with their placement plans.
· To attend group meetings with an awareness of how communication promotes emotional growth and development whether verbal or non-verbal.
· To promote Shyne’s philosophy of behaviour management through consistency, respect, warmth and empathy and above all compassion
· To provide for the young person’s physical needs as necessary, for example, by cooking, washing, ironing, shopping, bathing (where appropriate), budgeting, or by enabling young people to carry out such tasks for themselves, developing their independence.
· To support any family or other contacts important to the individual young person, agreed by reviews/planning meetings or court hearings. Also to protect young people from contact with individuals who have been deemed as inappropriate or a danger to the individual young person.
· To ensure the rights and needs of young people are met as fully as possible whether spiritual, physical, intellectual cultural or social and to ensure that all young people’s primary needs are met when on shift.
· To provide a caring and supportive environment for young people that respects and affirms their racial, cultural and religious identity and lifestyle.
· To act as a member of the staff team and be aware of the importance of team work, supporting colleagues and receiving support as necessary.
· To participate in staff meetings, handovers, staff debriefings, consultation sessions to ensure consistency and good practice.
· To attend professional supervisions prepared to discuss the set agenda items ,new issues, and evidence of actions completed .
· Be available for and make productive use of professional supervision.
· To be involved in the promotion of good domestic and material standards throughout the home.
· To attend compulsory training and identify your own training needs.
· To maintain, Shyne’s policies regarding Health and Safety, to maintain client Confidentiality at all times having no communication with the media or other outside bodies without the written permission of the Registered Manager.
· To undertake any other tasks requested by the Registered Manager or Senior Management.
· This post requires the worker to follow a rota finalised by the Registered Manager that includes 24 hour cover including night shifts a working week which includes Public Bank Holidays.

Time and a half for time worked over monthly contracted hours
Higher rate of pay based on qualifications .
