Head ofPractice Development

 

National Role

  

£70,000 - £75,000 plus company car or car allowance

 

35 hours per week

 

 

An exciting new opportunity has become available for a forward thinking Nurse to develop our Nursing workforce as Head ofPractice Development at Sanctuary Care.
 

Reporting to Director of Quality and Clinical Improvement the role will design, implement, deliver and maintain a program of academic, clinical and pastoral support for internationally educated nurses across specialist nursing homes nationally in line with the Clinical Strategy alongside contributing to the development of the clinical and nursing workforce to ensure it is fit for future by ensuring the opportunity for development of pre-registration student nurse and trainee nursing associate pathways. 

 

Regular travel is required so it’s essential you have a driving licence.

 

The role of the Head ofPractice Development will include:

 

  • Design, implement, deliver and maintain a program of academic and clinical practice to ensure effective preparation for completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and successful registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) for internationally educated nurses.           
  • Design, implement, deliver & maintain appropriate pastoral support for internationally educated nurses including support and guidance for the receiving service to ensure effective integration with recognition and celebration of cultural diversity and inclusion.                              
  • Create an internal support network for internationally educated nurses and ensure demonstratable active and sustained engagement with the NMC forum for internationally educated nurses.  Work clinically alongside internationally educated nurses to support best practice standards are consistently delivered both pre and post registration.                        
  • Support and actively build relationships with health and commissioning key partners, including Health Education England, Skills for Care, Primary Care, acute trusts, independent healthcare providers, and integrated care boards. Actively manage contractual relationships at a national, regional and local level.     
  • Identify appropriate universities to link with national services. Leading relationship management with universities and other providers to arrange, facilitate & deliver high quality clinical practice placements for pre-registration student nurses, trainee nursing associates and other learners. Ensuring the effective completion of practice placement audits with associated improvements as required.                                                  
  • "Establish and maintain a live database of all mentors and assessors for Nursing Practice, ensure active and up to date compliance and competence with necessary prerequisite training and role delivery to mentor and assess pre-registration student nurses, trainee nursing associates and other learners in the clinical practice environment.
  • Development and implementation of preceptorship program.                                       
  • Work clinically with pre-registration student nurses, trainee nursing associates and other learners in the clinical environment to ensure high quality placements and the development of appropriate competence, confidence and enthusiasm and interest in adult social care services and practices.                                   
  • Contribute to the creation, implementation & delivery of a preceptorship program for newly registered nurses.                                                      
  • Contribute, facilitate and lead in quality improvement projects and change processes to improve the standards of care. Maintain own professional registration and clinical practice knowledge and skills.                                                           
  • To represent the quality and clinical improvement team internally and externally, deputising for the Director of Quality & Clinical Improvement as and when required.                                                 
  • Maintain knowledge and competence in issues of regulation, legislation, clinical Nursing Practice, professional issues, best practice, research, policy & procedure.                                                    
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to special programmes and projects in support of the Group's values and objectives.                                                                                                                                            

Skills and experience:

 

  • Significant post registration nursing experience with recent clinical practice
  • Detailed understanding of legislative, compliance requirements and professional issues                                      
  • Experience of change management and/or working within challenged services
  • Proven senior nursing leadership experience within the care sector                       
  • Proven education, training, teaching, and Practice Development experience
  • Experience of working with multiple universities and in learning environment
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and prioritising conflicting demands                                       
  • Experience of improving Nursing Practice and professional issues               
  • Proven ability to manage effective delivery of improvement projects         
  • A masters degree in a relevant subject
