Regional Health and Safety Business Advisor – Construction and Development

We have an opportunity for a very experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our busy team. You will need previous housing construction and development, experience to be successful in the role. The role of Health and Safety Business Advisor – Construction and Development falls under Corp Safety. Development and Construction are responsible for the delivery of the Group’s affordable housing, private sale, grant funded, development and regeneration programmes.
This role will suit an experienced construction safety advisor in new build housing and refurbishment works for market sale or social rent already undertaking a similar role within a Housing association or local authority. The Safety team are responsible for providing construction related Health and Safety advice to our internal house builder Beech Grove Homes as the Principal Contractor and to Development team as the Client under the CDM regulations.
Currently visiting a selection of construction schemes underway on a monthly basis, there will be a need for frequent travel and on occasion overnight stays. You will provide high quality Health and Safety advice, as well as undertaking construction audits of sites. This is a remote position.
You should hold as a minimum the NEBOSH General Certificate in Construction safety, ideally hold a SHEM Diploma (or working toward) and be a member of IOSH at Graduate level to apply.
The role of Construction Health and Safety Business Advisor will include:
- Undertaking Health and Safety audits and Inspections at our construction and refurbishment sites in England.
- Working collaboratively with Construction and Development business managers and staff to provide guidance, advice and support where required.
- Delivering Health and Safety construction training to ensure appropriate training and learning is delivered to the business area.
- Reviewing and monitoring accident incident reports and conducting or assisting with site investigations where required
- Creating and supporting risk assessments, safe systems of work and processes
- Liaising with the construction Senior Health and Safety Advisor on the progress of compliance actions, work streams, projects, risks and related issues
- Maintaining good relationships with key stakeholders across the business areas
- Supporting and assisting with the development of Health and Safety documentation e.g., policies and procedures help and forum development.
- Reporting RIDDOR incidents to the HSE (reporting of injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences regulations)
- Promoting and supporting the role of Health and Safety Representatives, Co-coordinators, and Forums to ensure that all Sanctuary’s subsidiaries and business operations have adequate Health and Safety representation.
- Ensuring that an effective H&S management and support network exists, including monitoring emails and attending regional meetings.
Skills and experiences:
- Previous extensive and significant experience of undertaking a similar role in Construction and Development is essential
- Experience of undertaking construction safety audits, inspections, and investigations
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Construction or General Certificate Health and Safety qualification is essential
- SHEP Dip (UKAS L5) or working toward
- Graduate membership of IOSH
- Good interpersonal and customer care skills
- Working knowledge of identifying training needs and experience in delivering specialist H&S construction training
- Ability to support staff development in construction Health and Safety.
- Confident using Microsoft packages (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio,)
- This role will involve driving on company business. To drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence
