We're excited to bring to market a fantastic opportunity for a Real Estate Underwriter to join AXA Commercial Lines within our highly respected Real Estate Specialty team, as we experience an exciting growth trajectory and invest in our workforce of the future. The portfolio is varied with highly sought-after clients, amassing an impressive gross premium, charting AXA as one of the biggest Real Estate portfolios in the UK. AXA are one of the lead insurers for Real Estate clients, working with specialist brokers, that place their business through the vibrant London Market. The team are well respected in the industry, having built a strong reputation, of which we take great pride.

What you'll be doing: As Commercial Underwriter you'll help drive and transform how we partner our broker portfolios, through responsive, flexible, and collaborative relationships. With a strong balance of technical and trading capability, you'll be empowered to make decisions, supported by data, insight, and decision support tools on mobile technology to succeed. You'll be focused on developing and delivering profitable growth, across new and existing business within the key markets.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, either at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

About you

What we’re looking for:

  • Keep an open mind: Keen to learn and challenge the status quo, able to approach tasks from different perspectives while focusing on helping colleagues and customers.
  • Stay curious: You’ll be perceptive of what our customers and the market wants and bring that knowledge into your work, whilst making the most of AXA’s development opportunities.
  • Be a team player: Able to use your unique skills and knowledge to collaborate with your colleagues, take accountability and discover new ways of doing things.
  • Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios within a Commercial environment, with specific London Real Estate / Property focus.
  • Strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment (non-package).
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing your own workload; this is imperative as you will need to operate at a strategic level, personally and actively influencing our approach and future direction.
  • A willingness to always go the extra mile, looking at ways to improve processes to progress forward and the ability to juggle priorities.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom .

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
