National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Traffic Operations Manager to join our team in the East region. The Traffic Operations Manager will lead a team of Team Managers and Traffic Officers, providing guidance and direction to ensure Traffic Operations run smoothly and incidents are handled effectively.
The East Regional Operations Centre is based in South Mimms and you will be based there doing shifts as a silver commander. When not on shift, this position can be based from any of the following six outstations throughout the region. Chieveley, Heston, Milton Common, Toddington, Whittlesford and South Mimms.
Please note that this position is 24/7 role with managers working in shifts to ensure continuous delivery, in which you will receive a 12.5% shift allowance.
You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving licence to be considered for this position and during employment.
What you’ll be leading on
- Provide front line team management and set objectives for the wider team, supporting, and developing performance and managing resources to ensure knowledge and values are maintained.
- Act as incident commander either on scene or from the control room on behalf of National Highways for more complex incidents to ensure all those involved are working safely and collaboratively to resolve the incident and restore the network in a timely manner.
- Actively seek out, analyse and act on feedback from customers to improve effectiveness against current customer service standards.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance against SMART objectives and performance indicators to support ongoing continuous improvement.
- Be proactive in generating and maintaining a positive operational culture to encourage a productive and safe working environment.
- Take responsibility for the health and safety of the wider team and yourself by challenging, reporting, and acting on any unsafe activities or conditions.
- Actively build and maintain a network of colleagues, partners and wider stakeholders in Operations to achieve progress on agreed business objectives and shared, to deliver a professional frontline service and enable effective and timely resolution of incidents.
To be successful
- Full clean UK Driving Licence is essential.
- Technical qualification / experience relevant to the role
- Experience working in a complex service delivery environment to tight deadlines.
- Able to engage effectively with staff at all levels and with different technical understanding and convey complex and challenging information to a variety of audiences.
- Good understanding of the work within wider operations and ability to drive best practice forward to effective implementation dealing constructively with setbacks.
