The opportunity
Salary: Trainee NJC Grade 7 GBP27,334 to GBP29,777 per annum / Qualified NJC Grade 9 GBP33,945 to 36,648 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: 37 hours per week, full time
Location: Countywide, this will be discussed with you at interview.
Please note: you will need to be able to travel to customers' homes and educational settings in order to carry out assessments and provide advice.

Trainee
As a Trainee Habilitation and Mobility Officer, you will work with a Qualified Habilitation Specialist to provide support and intervention for children and young people with vision impairments.
You will work in partnership with colleagues, schools, agencies, and other professionals to promote inclusion and independence of children with visual impairments.
You must be willing to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People) within this role.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
Working with a family centred approach.Offering advice and guidance to educational placements on appropriate support.Carrying out, alongside the QHS, assessments of children and young people with visual impairment, including those with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP's).Ensuring children and young people receive fair, inclusive treatment.Maintaining records and assessments.Qualified
As a Habilitation and Mobility Officer, you will ensure children and young people are supported to develop their habilitation skills to promote their independence both in their educational setting, and the wider community.
Key to this role is the ability to carry out appropriate assessment of habilitation needs, to enable the delivery of planned, co-ordinated support and direct teaching of habilitation skills.
You will have strong personal values and emotional resilience, plus the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers. You should have good IT and organisation skills and be able to work flexibly.

You will need to communicate effectively and provide clear, concise advice. You will be part of a team but much of the day-to-day work will require you to work independently.

You will require a degree level qualification or minimum qualification equivalent to QCF Level 4 with extensive relevant work experience.
Qualified

The Sensory Support Team (SST) works with families, pre-schools, and schools in West Sussex to support the educational and developmental needs of children and young people with a sensory impairment or a physical disability.
The SST aims to support educational establishments to ensure that they carry out their statutory duties and work within the requirements of the Children and Families Act and Equalities Act to provide reasonable adjustments to support the inclusion of children with vision, hearing, multi-sensory impairment, and physical disabilities across West Sussex.
