Job description

Transferees Detective Constable - Modern Slavery / Human Trafficking

Based at Lindum House in Stone, Staffordshire an exciting opportunity has arisen for Police Detective Constables to apply for a role within the Modern Slavery Team – as such the candidate must be PIP2 qualified, OR working towards this accreditation by already passing the NIE or being booked onto one.

The role of the Detective Constable is specifically tasked with managing and investigating complex cases mainly involving the spectrum of offences within Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking legislation. Officers will also be expected to deal with immigration crime and fraud linked to this area of criminality. As well as conventional methods of investigation the team will utilise a range of covert tactics and equipment to identify victims and suspects, working with a wide array of partners to support quality investigations.

Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking deals with vulnerable victims who are often hidden from society, where exploiters will use people for sexual exploitation, forced labour, criminal exploitation, domestic servitude and/or organ harvesting.

Organised Immigration Crime involves moving a person across borders without legal permission or documentation with the assistance of an organised crime group (lorry drops etc).

Investigations within Staffordshire are a key strand in the delivery of our Policing Plan. We aim to focus on what matters to the people of Staffordshire through modern policing, early intervention, supporting victims and witnesses, managing offenders and public confidence. The role of the DC is crucial to ensure that we deliver quality investigations in this specialist area of business to provide safeguarding opportunities to potential victims and deal with complex enquiries to pursue suspects through to a judicial outcome.

The Adult Safeguarding and Exploitation Team (ASET) within the Adult Public Protection Unit (PPU) and has two separate areas of business. One side specialises in Modern Slavery, Human Trafficking and Organised Immigration Crime and the second concentrates on Adult Safeguarding within a care setting.

This post sits within the Modern Slavery Team which is based at Lindum House in Stone, Staffordshire.

Geographically, officers will have responsibility for covering investigations across the Staffordshire force area. Whilst the standard shift pattern is Mon – Fri 0800 – 1600hrs, there is some expectation that the successful candidate will be flexible and able to work outside of these hours when dealing with a spontaneous incident. Officers will on occasion also provide resilience to work within the wider Force and Public Protection Unit should the need arise. Therefore, there is on occasion the opportunity for agile working and limited flexibility with working hours.

For an informal discussion around the role please contact DS Lindsey-Anne Brown Lindsey-Anne.Brown@staffordshire.police.uk

PIP2 qualified Detective Constables in local CID, Major & Organised Crime and PPU Investigations will receive an additional £750 annual payment, spread over 12 months, from 1 August, following approval by the Executive Management Board to implement Targeted Variable Payments (TVP).

TVP is a national scheme open to all forces, and can be made in a small number of cases, including to retain staff where there is a critical skills gap or because of the hard-to-fill nature of the role. In addition to existing DCs receiving this payment, PIP 2 qualified DCs recruited from other forces will also be offered a one-off payment of £750 to join Staffordshire Police, in addition to the annual payment.

As ‘One Force’ across Staffordshire, we know that Diversity and Inclusion help us improve our decision making, encourage creativity and embrace innovation so all our people can thrive.

Our vacancies are open to everyone and all appointments are made based on merit and achievements. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, gender, people who have a disability, those who are neurodivergent and persons of the LGBTQ+ community.

We use positive action to encourage potential candidates from underrepresented groups through targeted step-In support and advice sessions.  If you have the skills, experience and values, that here in Staffordshire Police Force we pride ourselves on, then we would welcome you to apply.

Closing date for applications: 0900 HRS 8 July 2024.
