Travel Assistance Assessment Officer
- £19.48 per hour PAYE / £24.24 per hour Umbrella
- 36 hours per week
- Occasionally outside 'normal' office hours/as required to meet the needs of the community
- Enhanced DBS required
- Temporary contract 3 months with the view of extension
The role will normally be office based with frequent travel to other locations as part of the need to undertake visits to people across the borough.
Overview:
The post holder will act as the dedicated liaison officer within the Council and supports with the delivery of Travel Assistance to residents, which includes:
- Providing personalised travel solutions to residents
- Ensuring people receive a good service and are supported as necessary
- Promoting the welfare and independence of children, young people and their families
- Building positive relationships with families and developing community cohesion
- Progressing partnerships with external organisations including schools, colleges and local charities
- Promoting sustainable ways of working and delivering support
Experience:
- Experiencing of working alongside and supporting individuals or families from a variety of backgrounds, and with varying abilities, strengths and needs, in a positive, person-centered way
- Experience of developing and undertaking strengths-based eligibility assessments, positive risk assessments or reviews
- Experience of working with individuals and organisations to find solutions to complex issues
- Experience of working constructively and sympathetically with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their parents/guardians
- Experience or knowledge of working in Travel Assistance provision and relevant legislation, policy and statutory guidance
- Experience of effectively disseminating information within the organisation and externally to gain the respect and trust of people and partners
- Experience of problem-solving in a social care context
Skills:
- Possess a strong understanding and commitment to building independence in children and young people
- Have excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and nurture relationships and partnerships with a range of people and organisations at a personal, service and community level
- Able to work sympathetically and constructively with children, young people or adults within a social care context
- Able to set own goals, manage own work and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, using initiative and exercising judgement
- Capable of working with a high level of autonomy; analysing issues and reaching creative solutions
- Able to record and present complex issues in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
- Able to work closely and effectively with a wide range of professionals, agencies, communities and people from diverse backgrounds
- Able to constructively challenge practice
- Able to identify and respond appropriately to potential safeguarding situations, whilst maintaining a positive relationship and longer term support
- Able to identify existing resources and opportunities within communities and co-develop creative solutions with local people to build stronger, more resilient, better resourced, more welcoming and inclusive communities
- Have good written and analytical skills which enable the capture of outcomes and impacts of support for individuals and communities
- Able to maintain integrity and professionalism during emotive and challenging situations and focus on the wider outcomes
- Able to work strictly to a Council policy in a fair and consistent manner and posses the ability to work creatively and with discretion within parameters
