The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 10 years and obtain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you have been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining DV security clearance can be a lengthy process. You’ll join us once Security Check (SC) clearance is obtained, and then the more enhanced DV checks will continue after you’ve started your employment. If SC clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months, we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made.

Job description 
Do you have a passion for engineering and defence? Are you excited by the opportunity to shape and define the some of the biggest and complex defence programmes in the UK today? The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) are currently seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join us a Trident Engineer at BAE Systems, Barrow-in-Furness.

Within this role, you will join a team working on the future Trident submarine build programme, supporting the testing of the Strategic Weapon System and associated engineering requirements. Working in the Systems Integration Dreadnought team, you be responsible for managing the provision of Strategic Weapon System (SWS) documentation for use in the Barrow shipyard. This includes the assistance with provision, support and management of all test documentation required to support the Dreadnought SWS test and commission programme.

This would be an ideal role if you are looking to develop your engineering skills in this sector or as a new engineering discipline.

Growing your career as part of the SDA, we will provide you with the diverse opportunities at the forefront of ensuring the delivery of crucial and significant projects. You will be supported by your manager and wider team to achieve your career goals and aspirations with mentoring available to fulfil your potential. If not already achieved, you will be expected to gain an HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience within your first year of employment. We will fund and provide you the support and guidance needed to help you achieve this.

At the SDA, we champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assist with Configuration Change Management, maintenance requirements, technical documentation, support equipment, development of test documentation and interface coordination. 
  • Development of through life support requirements
  • Ensure that technical and programme risks are understood and managed.
  • Produce and contribute to Engineering Management Plans.
  • Development and maintenance of an associated project management plan

Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • An engineering background in any engineering discipline.
  • Proven basic understanding of engineering systems.

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • Understanding of basic submarine engineering systems.

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
