Job description

As one of the world's largest networks of audit, tax and consulting firms, RSM delivers big ideas and premium service to help middle-market businesses thrive. We are a fast-growing firm with big ambitions -- we have a clear goal to become the premium adviser to the middle market, globally. This vision touches everything we do, motivating and inspiring us to become better every day. If you are looking for a firm where you can build a future and make an impact, then RSM is the place for you.

About the department

When you become part of our team, you’ll discover a culture celebrating individuality, fresh thinking, flexibility and collaboration, whilst not only embracing change but impacting it. We’re simply not a one-size-fits-all firm and work hard to create an environment where our people can make a difference - to themselves, their career, their teams, and to the success of RSM and our clients.

Within the National Employer Solutions Service Line, you'll work within a strong and growing team of UK Employment Tax specialists alongside our Global Mobility and Share Scheme experts. We service clients across a variety of business types and industries, including start-up enterprises, mid-market organisations, public sector bodies and large corporations. We work closely with colleagues across the firm to provide a joined up service, combining expertise in accounting, audit and all relevant taxes.

About the role
As a result of the continually growing demand for our specialist services, we are looking for an individual to join our expanding National Employer Solutions Team and wider People Advisory Service Group, as a Manager. We offer strong flexible and agile working (see below for more detail). You will be responsible for providing UK Employment Tax advisory and compliance services to a wide range of clients. This will involve actively building relationships and providing assistance to senior members of staff in both client work and in the management of the group, as appropriate.  You will be supported by a number of individuals, whom you will delegate work and develop further.

  • Dealing with all Employment Taxes matters arising on clients, both advisory and compliance.
  • Handling issues pertaining, but not limited to, P11D, PSA, termination payments, IR35 and employment status, PAYE/NIC risk reviews, disclosures, HMRC enquiries, and CIS etc.
  • Delivering Employment Tax projects and assignments in accordance with the firm’s standard procedures and quality standards.
  • Building relationships with clients and identify tax planning opportunities, undertaking specialist technical assignments as required.
  • Managing, supervising, supporting, and developing junior colleagues within the team. This will involve briefing on assignment instructions, supervising and controlling the completion of work, as well as providing “on the job” training and appraisal feedback where necessary.
  • Supporting the team with the successful delivery of internal and external presentations such as client seminars on topical employer issues.
  • Researching and preparing proposals for new work, and taking part in formal presentations to prospective clients.
Ensuring that appropriate liaison takes place with all other departments, and that all potential client needs are identified and serviced accordingly.
  • Maintaining technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and fulfilling professional bodies’ CPD requirements.

About the ideal candidate

You will have solid UK Employment Tax experience and effective team leadership skills, with an interest in and/or aptitude for business development.  Opportunities for progression are open for the right candidate with excellent support for training and development needs.

  • Specialist Employment Taxation knowledge and the ability to deal with complex tax issues.
  • Ability to build relationships across the firm and externally - improving awareness of our offerings.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Staff supervision experience and ability to train more junior team members.
  • Broad experience of managing the financials on clients and adjusting the approach depending on the budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • ATT and CTA and/or ACA qualified, or qualified by experience.
