UK Fleet Manager

We are looking for an expert to provide Fleet Management control within Air Liquide UK and Energas transport operations. This will also include collaboration with third party service providers to ensure alignment with current standards, operating practices and legal requirements relevant to the UK operational areas.

The UK Fleet and Workshop Manager has operational control of all fleet maintenance activities pertaining to the approved internal and external workshops carrying out specific heavy goods maintenance activities. This includes both cryogenic and mechanical maintenance for the all HGV tractor, trailer and rigid fleet.

The role must control all relevant workshop activities on a day to day basis through the supervisory structure currently in place. This position also has the functional responsibility to ensure the relevant organisations and workshops are maintaining and inspecting equipment within the requirements of all relevant and prescribed legislation or guidelines such as ADR (European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), CDG regulations, IMO or PSSR where applicable.

As well as effective management of direct reports and subordinates it is a requirement to maintain close management of specialist external contractors and suppliers, whilst ensuring cost effective benefits relating to operational effectiveness and safety related requirements are achieved.

On an organisational level the Fleet and Workshop Manager’s roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Effective and efficient management of all fleet maintenance activities undertaken by internal and external resources to ensure that legal and company standards are maintained, whilst ensuring equipment availability meets business requirements.

  • Maintaining legal compliance for Safety inspections and statutory tests, including all related documentation in line with UK regulations

  • To ensure the effective management of the day to day activities within our internal cryogenic workshop.

  • To provide a timely and efficient response to the transport operations team by maintaining and repairing all fleet equipment within the required service levels, to the highest standards

  • To ensure the use of contractors for all technical activities is appropriately controlled and approved, and that vendors engaged to provide such services meet the requirements of the business safety and performance policies.

  • Developing and delivering productivity targets for the transport operations department.

  • Ensuring appropriate specification, selection and deployment of vehicles to meet operational requirements, safety standards and vulnerable road user considerations

  • Management of accident and Incident investigation performance to drive improvements around transport activities and road safety

  • Maintaining compliance of training of all personnel involved in fleet maintenance activities;

  • To work closely with all shared service elements (procurement, finance, HR , SHEQ) to ensure that effective interfaces are maintained and all aspects of department activity adhere to company policies.

  • To be a technical authority on, but not limited to the road transport and bespoke dispense equipment operated and developed by Air Liquide

  • The successful candidate will ideally possess a Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage, hold a chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, EngTech qualification and/or Engineering Qualifications (City & Guilds parts 1-3).

  • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety - Desirable

  • Demonstrative experience overseeing fleet management activities within a heavy goods industry

  • Direct management of workshop teams and remote activities

  • Competency in risk assessment and SOP generation

  • Experience in the development and delivery of training at all levels.

  • Proficiency with IT applications and systems

  • Clean driving license
