The Team
The role purpose is to operate as an effective member of the Underwriting team, reviewing, approving and offering secured loans within lending authority and in accordance with the Companys written policies and procedures. It is essential that the successful candidate can work effectively, managing their day-to-day workload to ensure that offers are made in line with business timescales.
Previous experience of working for a secured lender or bank / building society is essential. In addition, during the time spent gaining the work experience we seek, it would be preferable that a secured lending underwriting mandate was held.
We operate a hybrid working model, with a split of three days to be in the office and two days at home. Our offices are based in Cardiff, London and Manchester. There may be occasional travel to our other offices.
What you will be doing
- To accurately assess the risk on loan applications ensuring that the loan is affordable, plausible and sustainable.
- To compose logical lending rationales for all cases reviewed.
- To minimise the risk to the business and the applicant with a strong focus on fraud avoidance.
- To agree exceptions within mandate, ensuring that an appropriate lending rationale is applied to each case.
- To provide a high level of customer service at all stages of an application to both internal and external customers.
- To maintain and demonstrate an awareness of external factors and market conditions which may affect underwriting decision making.
- To ensure that regulatory requirements are adhered to throughout the process and in all contact with customers, brokers and third parties.
- To accurately prepare secured loans for offer within agreed timescales.
- To comply with and / or ensure compliance with all Pepper Money data protection policies.
- To recommend changes and / or improvements to policies and procedures.
What we are looking for
- Mortgage lending knowledge and experience
- Specialist Lending experience advantageous
- Strong customer service background and passionate about great service
- Regulatory knowledge, FCA, TCF, MCOB (MMR changes)
- Considerable experience in mortgage lending as an underwriter holding a mandate of £25k as a minimum.
- Demonstrable experience in the end-to-end mortgage journey of processing
- Experience of calculating all income scenarios
- Strong communication skills verbal and written.
- Able to work both under their own initiative and as part of a team
- Ability to delve as deeply as necessary into cases whilst at the same time displaying empathy with brokers, distributors and customers by making right first-time decisions
- Demonstrate a pro- active, hardworking, flexible approach and able to work under own initiative but also as a team player.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Proactivity, flexibility, initiative and a strong work ethic
- CEMAP would be desirable (to be attained within 12months of employment commencing)
