Urban Design Manager

If you are passionate about Urban Design, place shaping and the role it can play in improving the lives of our residents, then we have a great opportunity for you. Based in the new Planning, Design and Sustainability Division, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Urban Design professional to establish, manage and lead our new Design Service. The service will provide advice on pre-applications and applications, help develop policy, design codes, conservation area appraisals and supplementary planning guidance, masterplans and regeneration frameworks. In addition, the service will work across the council to ensure council led projects, from regeneration to Leisure and housing, have good Urban Design and place making embedded from conception to delivery. 

You will be tasked with setting up the new Urban Design service, identifying funding sources and commercial opportunities and establishing governance arrangements and working relationships with the different parts of the council, working closely with the Assistant Director for Planning, Design and Sustainability.  This is a great opportunity to make your mark, setting up a new service in a newly established division and ensuring good design is embedded in everything we do.

We are looking for a motivated Urban Designer, who can manage a service and work across the council and promote and embed the importance of good Urban Design, with experience in complex planning applications, developing masterplans, design briefs and feasibility studies.

This role requires innovative thinking and the ability to influence and motivate. The successful candidates will be working in a directorate full of people dedicated to achieving great things, and in an organisation with an appetite for innovation and continuous improvement to ensure we deliver the best for our residents, businesses and visitors.

This role is deemed customer facing and as such you must have a command of spoken English which is sufficient to enable you to effectively perform the role.  This requirement relates to Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.

This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process.
