Activus Recruitment have an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Operations Managerto join our clients established Civils and Construction firm, based in Chester.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be part of the Management Team responsible for the development of the GIRS business operation.

Job Description:

Responsible For:

  • Safety and welfare of all Operatives within the scope of their responsibility.
  • Management of GIRS, WIRS, NERS and UIP gas installation operations.
  • Manage utility construction activities with contractors, developers, highway inspectors and highway authorities.
  • Manage the activities of any Supervisors and office-based staff assigned to their projects.
  • Resolve project and site related issues.
  • Communicate in writing on utility related matters.
  • Refer complex issues to the GIRS/WIRS/NERS Technical Advisors.
  • Monitor and act upon audit outputs.
  • Related human resources issues.

Main Function of the Role:

The GIRS Operations Manager is part of the Management Team responsible for the development of the GIRS business operation.
The Operations Manager is responsible for procurement, management and co-ordination of all utility work and maintenance of the GIRS registration schemes.
The Operations Manager will work closely with the Technical Advisor on all GIRS related matters.

Key Objectives:

To promote and develop the Company's GIRS business.

To ensure that all tenders and contracts are undertaken in accordance with UK Power Solutions GIRS registration specific Operations Manuals.

To handover new projects to the GIRS Project Manager as detailed within the GIRS Operations Manual.

To assume overall responsibility for the Company's GIRS Accreditation.

To ensure that the GIRS Technical Advisor is adequately consulted on GIRS registration projects.

To assist with the allocation of suitable qualified and competent personnel with respect to all GIRS project management work and comply with the Company's Safety Technical Competency procedure.

To ensure all work is in accordance with current health, safety and environmental legislation.

Ensure the appropriate skilled, trained and competent personnel resources necessary to construct gas, electricity and water networks.

To action, if identified, technical non compliances.

To maintain a competent workforce to agreed quality standards.

To motivate and develop subordinates.

Develop and maintain a continuous improvement culture.

Achieve personal targets by carrying out PDP's, monitoring and reviews.

Monitor performance, commercial issues and costings.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

Working to the Company's Health and Safety Policy.

Working to toe Company's Environmental Policy.

Developing a staff training plan.

Reporting and monitoring defects in plant or equipment.

Ensuring use of correct tools and equipment for the job.

Advise new employees, particularly apprentices, of known hazards.

Refraining from undertaking any work with hazardous substances and processes unless a COSHH assessment has been undertaken.

Work in a safe manner at all times and refrain from taking any unnecessary risk, which could endanger themselves and others.

Wearing suitable PPE whilst on site.

Suggesting and implementing ways of improving safety and eliminating hazards.

Reporting and incident or damage, however minor, to Directors.

Setting a personal example when visiting site by wearing the appropriate protective clothing.

Ensuring that suitable and effective steps ate taken to monitor and clear any deficiencies.

Ensuring that all incidents or accidents that have caused or had the potential to cause harm to any person in the vicinity of one of the Company's sites, are reported promptly to the Director responsible for HS&E and carry out any investigations necessary.

Register with Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) for SHEA Gas
Minimum 5 years relevant contractual and managerial experience
Extensive knowledge of safety, quality, audit and company procedures, legislation and practice.
Utility gas experience preferred.

Salary: 45-55k per annum.
