Job description

Company: A dynamic Survey and Engineering firm with approximately 20 staff, specialising in providing comprehensive surveying solutions across various sectors.

Role Overview: As a Utility Surveyor at, you will play a vital role in our surveying operations, focusing on the accurate detection, mapping, and assessment of underground utilities within the Central Belt region of Scotland. This role offers the opportunity for fieldwork, data analysis, and collaboration with our diverse team of professionals to deliver high-quality surveying services to our clients.

Responsibilities:

  1. Utility Detection and Mapping: Utilise advanced surveying techniques and equipment to accurately locate, map, and assess underground utilities such as water, gas, electricity, and telecommunications.

  2. Field Surveys: Conduct on-site surveys in accordance with project requirements, ensuring safety protocols are followed and accurate data is collected.

  3. Data Analysis: Analyze survey data to produce detailed reports, drawings, and documentation, highlighting the location, depth, and condition of utilities for project planning and design purposes.

  4. Client Communication: Liaise with clients to understand project objectives, provide technical expertise, and offer solutions to utility-related challenges.

  5. Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality control throughout the surveying process, adhering to industry standards and best practices.

  6. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.

  7. Equipment Maintenance: Take responsibility for the maintenance and calibration of surveying equipment and company vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal condition for fieldwork.

  8. Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards to ensure the safety of yourself, colleagues, and the public during surveying activities.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in utility surveying or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locators, and utility mapping software.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide accurate assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings, and willingness to travel for project assignments outside the Central Belt region.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to drive a company van as required.
