Job description

At M&G our purpose is to help people manage and grow their savings and investments, responsibly. As a business, we are continuing to take steps towards a sustainable future, delivering better long-term solutions for our customers and clients and identifying new opportunities to make a positive impact for our environment and communities . To help us achieve our vision we're looking for exceptional people who live our values of care and integrity and who can inspire others; embrace change; deliver results and keep it simple.
We will consider flexible working arrangements for any of our roles and also offer work place accommodations to ensure you have what you need to effectively deliver in your role.
The Team
This role sits within the Capital Reporting and Stress Testing team, part of the Actuarial Modelling and Valuations Centre of Excellence. The team has two core business-as-usual (BAU) reporting responsibilities:
(i) producing and analysing the Solvency II Risk Margin and Solvency Capital Requirement (SCR) for the company's shareholder business and the With-Profits Sub-Fund (WPSF); and
(ii) producing and analysing the movements in all components of the Own Funds and SCR under the company's suite of stress and scenario testing (SST) for the company's shareholder business and the WPSF.
In addition to these BAU deliverables, we provide subject matter expertise on capital- and SST-related issues to the wider business, support the delivery of the company's strategic priorities (e.g. liaising with Corporate Risk and Investment Solutions on new business impacts, working with the Risk Modelling Team to support regulatory Major Model Change applications, implementing process / control improvements, and embracing new solutions and technologies, etc.) and produce responses to queries and information requests from our regulators.
The role
You will be a key part of the team and will contribute to the production of the quarterly SCR and Risk Margin reporting deliverables. You will produce the analysis that is used to understand the company's key risk exposures and explain how and why these change over time. As part of this role you will have the opportunity to:
  • Deliver and develop the analysis and reporting of valuation results; working closely with the Insurance Financial Controller's teams to ensure results are well-explained and accurately communicated to senior stakeholders;
  • Develop a deep knowledge of the capital modelling of the company's shareholder and with-profits business, and the sensitivity of different business lines to key economic and non-economic risks;
  • Develop an understanding of how the shareholder balance sheet and the WPSF are managed; and how these are affected by the reported regulatory position and the key risk sensitivities assessed via the SST process;
  • Develop an understanding of how the commercial and regulatory environment impacts the company's solvency position; and work with a range of colleagues across other areas, particularly in Finance and Risk.

Person specification:
To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Strong technical actuarial knowledge, and attention-to-detail;
  • To be self-motivated and willing to take responsibility and ownership of the work assigned;
  • Experience of problem-solving and of providing practical solutions to complex problems;
  • To be able to clearly communicate results to a range of stakeholders from junior team members to senior management; and
  • A willingness to engage with and challenge the results, and to be comfortable forming and expressing your own viewpoint.

Knowledge of any of Solvency II reporting, asset modelling, non-profit annuity valuation, or with-profits valuation would be advantageous, however on-the-job training will be provided to the successful candidate.
Work Level: Experienced Colleague
Close Date: 28th March 2024
We have a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture at M&G plc, underpinned by our policies and our employee-led networks who provide networking opportunities, advice and support for the diverse communities our colleagues represent. Regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, nationality or disability we are looking to attract, promote and retain exceptional people.
