Job description

Do you root for Sheffield people, are you passionate about the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector in Sheffield and want to drive forward our collective understanding, capacity, and capabilities for co-production and co-delivery between the sector and the council?

This is a fixed term 2 year role that will be co-located and managed in partnership between the Council and the VCSFE to implement a system transformation and culture Change Programme.  The city eco-system relies on having a thriving and sustainable VCFSE sector, supporting community resilience.  To enable this to happen the Council need to better understand our role and responsibilities; and consider how these might need to evolve in future to meet long term ambitions such as the City Goals and the Race Equality Commission Report.

This will be a varied role which will require excellent partnership working, influencing and enabling culture change, alongside project management and policy skills.   Although this is a Policy Officer role, it will be based in Integrated Commissioning, alongside officers managing the Council's core grant programmes (more information here Grants and funding for the voluntary sector | Sheffield City Council)

We expect the successful candidate to be flexible and responsive to a diverse range of people.  The types of work / a typical week might look like:

  • Facilitating and hosting workshops and meeting with council officer and / or VCFSE partners
  • Working closely with officers and voluntary sector partners building relationships and seeking solutions that achieve outcomes for residents of the city
  • Meeting staff / partners and shadowing services including voluntary sector partners
  • Advocating for VCFSE partners within Council Policy and services and amplifying their value
  • Writing strategy, Policy and reports for governance meetings and boards
  • Tracking and maintaining project plans
  • Connecting with other workstreams within the Council such as community engagement, Future Sheffield etc

If you have experience managing complex projects, can work with colleagues across different Council departments and VCSFE organisations, this is a great opportunity to contribute to a key transformational programme of work for the City, and we would love to hear from you.

The interview will be a combination of a panel and exercise assessment with Council Officers and VCFSE partners.

You are welcome to call for an informal discussion with either a Council Officer or VCFSE partner. (emma.dickinson@sheffield.gov.uk)
