Job description

  1. Do you have previous experience working as a Vehicle Workshop Fitter/equivalent?
  2. Do you have the appropriate City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Maintenance qualifications?
  3. Do you have Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle maintenance qualification?
  4. Do you have a full current driving license for a range of vehicle types?
  5. Do you have experience maintaining and repairing a range of vehicles?

Job Type: Temporary

Duration: Temporary ongoing with no end date specified
Location: Gateshead
Pay Rates: Negotiable and depending on skill and experience
Working Days and Hours: Monday to Friday, hours to be confirmed, likely to be 9am to 5pm

  • Work a shift system incorporating unsociable hours every 4th week
  • Overtime is available in addition to enhanced payment for winter maintenance call-out duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a range of vehicles, from cars to HGVs and plant, including forklift trucks
  • Undertake inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance of vehicles and plant
  • Diagnose faults and perform effective repairs
  • Carry out electrical repairs on vehicles
  • Attend and assist in the recovery of breakdowns across the borough
  • Use welding, heating, abrasive, and cutting tools as required
  • Operate lifting equipment
  • Maintain care of tools and equipment
  • Participate in training as advised by Line Manager
  • Take responsibility for own and others’ health and safety
  • Communicate and interact positively with other service users and employees at all levels within the Council
  • Work independently without supervision
  • Perform any other duties allocated that are appropriate to the grade of the post

Role Profile - Vehicle Workshire Fitter Criteria:

Appropriate City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Maintenance qualifications or equivalent (including Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle maintenance) or willingness to work towards

Full current driving license

Experience with light welding and vehicle/equipment recovery

Proficient in driving a range of vehicle types

Skilled in maintaining and repairing a range of vehicles

Effective oral and written communication skills
