The roles are located in Winlaton, Gateshead, and Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, whilst on the doorstep to the beautiful Northumberland Countryside, the North East Coast, and the vibrant city life of Newcastle and Durham.

This practice is offering a wonderful opportunity for a recently/soon to be graduated Vet, to join their successful team of professionals. Support and mentorship are in abundance.

The Role and You:

This is a wonderful position for a newly graduated Veterinary Surgeon role, with RCVS registration.

This practice is a close-knit team, very supportive of each other, and they very much are looking for someone who wants to enjoy working as part of that close team, taking the role (but not yourself!) seriously. Attitude and work ethic is what they consider of the highest importance and the rest will follow.

· Varied case load, work scope from shoestring budgets to gold-standard care

· Companion animal (some exotics thrown in for those that way inclined )

· 15-minute consults

· Average of 34-36 hours/week

· No late nights, OOH or bank holidays

· 1 in 4 Saturday mornings (2.5hr consult-only shift)

· Protected free time, lots of breaks, and free lunches to keep you going during shifts.

· We are very open to flexible working too and are happy to consider alternative working patterns.

· Everyone who works here is supported in their professional development.

· Succession within the practice is also a possibility if you’d like to put down roots.

· The Practice is fully equipped to limit the need for outside referral offering in-house Orthopaedics, fully comprehensive IDEXX in-house lab including Sedivue, in-house PCR Testing, DR X-ray, Dental DR X-ray, Microscopy, Tonometry and much more!

The team:

Self-confessed, and without wanting to mislead any applications, this practice says …

‘We are not an ordinary, normal practice, we are unique, and proudly so. Our mission statement is Blending Modern Medicine with Old Fashioned Care, and we do our very best to uphold that day to day. We are strong believers in protecting down time and take continuous active steps to ensure our staff have a great work/life balance.

Our teams at each branch have a sense of humour which has to be experienced to be fully appreciated, and we encourage this atmosphere 100%!’

We have a scope of experience from our 8 Vet team (recent graduate to Clinical Director), across our two sites, and a close relationship with the nearby referral hospitals.

Plenty of support, and opportunities to share cases and bounce ideas around the team.

Our most recently recruited Graduate Vets, said this of their experiences so far…

Lucy – “I first came to sore paws for an EMS placement in February 2022. It is the perfect place to get hands on practical experience, I was encouraged to do as much as I wanted and given lots of opportunities and support throughout my placement, seeing lots of interesting cases and carrying out routine surgeries.

The team are so friendly and welcoming and really want you to feel as comfortable as possible. I enjoyed it so much I started working here in summer 2022. I’ve felt fully supported throughout my first year here but also have been pushed to learn/try as much as possible. It really is the ideal environment to learn and ask questions with no judgement and build clinical knowledge and practical skills as a new grad.”

Matthew – “Being a new grad here has been wonderful! I have always had full support from the whole team, in relation to knowledge and clinical experience, logistical help and emotional support. They have become my second family! This familial nature merges both support and encouragement in a healthy manner which is a balance that is very reassuring as a New Graduate; getting you stuck into a variety of cases (both surgical and medical from day one) and never dwelling on any inevitable mistakes that are made, instead using such events as learning opportunities.”
