The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is recruiting Victim Liaison Officers to provide an enhanced communication service to victims and witnesses of crime. If you have experience of working with vulnerable people and want a role where you can make a real difference, we’d like to hear from you.
About the Crown Prosecution Service
The CPS is responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. As the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales, the nature and diversity of cases we advise on and prosecute means our work is often emotionally challenging and complex. As such we employ over 7,000 individuals who think objectively, act professionally, show the upmost respect for others and continually strive for excellence.
We have recently launched the victim transformation programme, a key priority for the CPS which focuses on improving victims’ and witnesses’ experience of the criminal justice system. We aim to deliver more transparency about our role, enhanced communication, and improved training to strengthen the support that we offer.
About the role
As a Victim Liaison Officer, you’re at the forefront of our transformation programme - delivering compassionate and consistent engagement to support the work of our rape and serious sexual offences unit. You explain our role, any decisions we make and procedures within the wider criminal justice system so that victims understand their rights and how their case is progressing. You provide updates over the phone, in writing and in meetings with prosecutors where victims can discuss any concerns ahead of trial. You also build relationships with partner agencies including witness care units, to secure additional practical and wellbeing support.
About you
Your role in this enhanced service ensures that victims remain confident in the justice process and feel informed throughout. You manage sensitive and challenging conversations by demonstrating empathy, integrity and good listening skills. It’s essential that you can communicate clearly, verbally and in writing. Experience of working with vulnerable people is preferred, although we provide full training.
About our benefits
At the CPS we pride ourselves on providing a variety of benefits that ensure our employees’ requirements are central. We want to ensure you can thrive at work and home, offering a range of support to achieve a balance. This includes flexible working hours, flexibility to support caring responsibilities and a family friendly approach to work. We also offer a range of benefits including:
- flexible and hybrid working
- competitive salary
- Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
- 25 days leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service, plus bank holidays
- 3 days paid volunteering leave
- 1 extra privilege day for the King’s birthday
- £350 a year individual learning budget
