The Department of Life Sciences within the School of Health Sciences is a thriving, vibrant, and inspiring learning community committed to excellence in, high quality learning and teaching and research and impactful stakeholder engagement.
Our growing teams are teaching, exploring, and practising in some of the most exciting areas in the field of Biomedical Engineering. Our research team include experts and academics who specialise in; Foot Orthoses, Biomechanics, Ergonomics, Assistive Technology / Wearable sensors, Machine Learning, Computational modelling, Digital Healthcare Solutions and Internet-of-Things (IoT) for Healthcare Applications.
We are a practice-based school, making our teaching and research relevant to the evolving healthcare technology market by partnering with local and global enterprise in areas such as; medical imaging technology, medical devices and IoT applications. This will be particularly relevant in both our MEng Biomedical Engineering and MSc Medical Engineering courses where students are encouraged to work on existing innovative research projects or in partnership with external medical technology industry to tackle real-world issues. We work in a collaborative and cross disciplinary culture, where interacting freely across the school and with colleagues is encouraged to gain a unique insight into impactful problem domains.
We invite applications for Visiting Lecturers from experienced Biomedical Engineers and or recent PhD graduates / Post-Doctoral researchers who wish to develop their learning and teaching portfolio, to join our integrated teaching and research team within the Department of Life Sciences. For this role we are particularly seeking applicants who have expertise and strong technical background in; Medical Image Processing, Medical Engineering, Data Science, Signal Processing, Human Computer Interaction, and from those who have a strong cross-disciplinary expertise in; designing, developing, and implementing innovative engineering solutions for medical problems.

Duties and Responsibilities
Personnel undertaking the role of Visiting Lecturer will:
- Play a pivotal role in supporting our post graduate provision in Medical Engineering and associated pathways, within the Department of Life Sciences - delivered in-house and in collaboration with partner organisations abroad.
- Teach in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures at post-graduate and or at graduate level where appropriate.
- Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
- Adapt and develop teaching materials, and manage learning cohorts.
- Mentor post graduate students in conceiving robust research proposals and supervise post graduate dissertations where appropriate
- Support the module leaders to set and mark assessments and provide constructive feedback to students as part of a teaching team and
- Upkeep the quality of learning and teaching and assessments by periodically liaising with the module leaders to ensure the efficient delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures.
